Is there a keybind for targeting your own bridge officers? [SOLVED]
Edit:
Okay. After about an hour and a half of being trolled in zone chat in multiple maps, I've finally learned what needs to be done. (Besides never speaking to anyone in this game again. lol)

Apparently you can actually specify named NPC's with the /target command. Lo and behold, this works for bridge officers, too.

So. Instead of having players assigned to my F keys, I'm able to assign my bridge crew. It's fairly straightforward: /bind f2 target name, /bind f3 target name, etc.

Now, the only drawback to this is:
1. It only works with one character on your account, since other characters will have different officers.
2. Unless you create more than 4 binds, you won't be able to switch out your officers.

Either way, this is the only solution. Would have been nice if Cryptic included this as a native function, but whatever. It works. Posting this here to hopefully spare others the pain of trying to get a valid answer for such a simple question. lol

Original post:
If there is, I haven't been able to find it. Apparently it's not the same function as targeting a team member.

I remember having this issue in Champions Online as well, with team members you invite versus automatic PUG team members.

I've been googling this problem all sorts of different ways, and I can't find any info on it.

Open your OS Explorer and go to the following directory: "SteamLibrary\SteamApps\common\Star Trek Online\Star Trek Online\Live"

There you create a plain textfile (.txt) and name it so you can recognize it, e.g. "STO_key_ground.txt".
This textfile should contain the following:

0x3b "TargetTeammate 1" "" 0x3c "TargetTeammate 2" "" 0x3d "TargetTeammate 3" "" 0x3e "TargetTeammate 4" ""

This way you can select your teammates with F1 to F4 keys.

The same can be done for space battles, by the way. You know how to do it now!

Good luck!

I appreciate you trying to help, but the F keys already do that by default. You don't have to edit any scripts.

The problem is, bridge officers are not considered teammates. I need a bind that will target my bridge officers. Not team members.

I see what you mean now. My bad.

The title of the post got me confused.

No worries. That being said, do you happen to know the default keybind for it? Or if there even is one? I would even settle for a custom script if I absolutely have to.

It just seems silly that there wouldn't be something so basic for something that makes up the core gameplay. I feel like I'm missing something that should be obvious.

I think there should be a way but I'm a bit confused, since the game regards "targeting" as a different function than "selecting", more so when it comes to your away team rather than your team members. If I knew the proper script syntaxis for the selecting function as such then this would had been solved already.

I went and tried for myself after reading your reply to my post, that's when I realized what kind of problem you're facing here.

On custom scripts: I can recommend studying the subject, it can make playing STO so much more satisfying! There should be plenty of info, that's how I got to using them. Selecting a team member and subsequently healing their ship by pressing only one button for instance can really make a difference and makes playing an awful lot much easier for me.

Good luck and let me know how it goes or when you have more questions!

Thanks. Yeah I'm familiar with how powerful custom scripts can be.

I have no problems targeting and healing other players. The problem is I spend 90% of my time solo, and I have no way of healing my own officers without manually targeting them with the mouse. I need to be able to use a keybind the same way I do for players - especially since I'm using a Steam controller.

Ah, gotcha.

What surprizes me a bit is that you even need to heal your team, or are you doing elites solo? And tbh I can't imagine a controller being particularly useful in STO, unless heavily relying on scripts.

But then again, that's me.

I play a highly specialized ground medic, and I control my bridge officers like a mastermind from City of Heroes. (And yes, I try to solo higher difficulties when possible.)

Aside from being forced to use the cursor to target them, the Steam controller is perfect for STO, since STO has partial native support already. The BPM profiler is extremely versatile and can cover everything that would otherwise be missing - scripts or no scripts.

I'd love to see you in action some time, I might learn a trick or two. I'm more of an attack Sci myself, as my main toon.
I'll keep an eye out, if I find anything useful I'll inform you.

Thanks! I apologize in advance if I'm not very sociable in-game, however. Like I said, I tend to spend most of my time solo. :-)

Right now I'm just going through all the missions again with my delta recruit, just so I can get the account rewards and to see some of the new episodes I never got to. Still need to make a gamma toon, too. Just not a fan of Jem'Hadar.

So just to be clear, no one has an answer for this yet? I still can't find anything, no matter how many different ways I phrase it with Google.

On a side note: When it comes to internet searches Goofle (no, I meant that) is not your best friend. Try DDG or Startpage, chances are you'll get a lot of hits you haven't found before.

I just might have some valuable info for you then:

It is possible, per toon, to assign a separate key config. Just make sure you properly name this config so you can discern the one(s) you want to use.

Log in to the desired toon, go into the game mode you want to edit and then enter the following in the chat window:
/bind_save_file D:\SteamLibrary\SteamApps\common\Star Trek Online\Star Trek Online\Live\"yourfilename".txt
Make sure you get the file name right, it would be advised to clearly specify between the RPG/GroundShooter/Space modes and for which particular toon it's intended.

After that use Explorer to search for that same file and edit it so that it contains all the commands and keybinds you want to use, then save.

You can copy-edit-rename extra files for any desired toon after that, only thing that remains is to load the files into each toon config using the following:
/bind_load_file D:\SteamLibrary\SteamApps\common\Star Trek Online\Star Trek Online\Live\"yourfilename".txt
in each separate mode.

It might be handy to copy/paste the bind_load and bind_save lines of code into and out of a separate text file.
I'm not sure how to tackle this when regularly switching out officers though, my apologies.

Please let me know if it has been somewhat useful, or if you want me to specify/explain things. Additional tips and suggestions are always welcome, of course!

Good luck, all!
