I am absolutely god-awful at ground combat
It is not uncommon for me to leave a ground zone with every single combat injury, stacked on top of each other. That being said, is there anything else that I can do that would make it less painful? Currently I'm running a tactical fed, lvl 65. I usually bring 1 "distraction" tactical, 1 "building" engineer, 1 "healing" science, and 1 "damage" science. Everyone has atleast XII gear. With space, I'm usually able to will myself through without dying too many times, but ground combat it's always me throwing myself at the enemy until they get tired of killing me. In combat I crouch.

Using the right Traits, Ground gear set, and Kit/Kit modules are very Important for ground combat..

My build is a CritD build using the Temporal 3 piece set, with a focus on Kit cooldown for faster module use..

You will want to get a Kit with these stats
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1756249470

My ground skills build
https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1756249508

I use these Ground traits
Technophile
Superior Acute Senses
Superior Pistol Training
Brutal Impetus
Field Technician
Sniper
Soldier
Strike Team Specialist
Universal Law is for Lackeys
Vicious

And for Ground Rep traits
Miniaturized Chrono-Capacitor Rank 2
Deadly Aim Rank 2
Omega Weapon Proficiency Rank 2
Energized Nanites Rank 2
Rending Shots Rank 2

I use these Modules
Trajectory Bending
Chroniton Micro-Torpedo Spread
Micro Photon Torpedo Launcher
Gravimetric Traps
Solar Gateway

With a sidebar of modules in my inventory I can swap in for whatever reasons/needs
Polaron Bombardment
Neutronic Grenade
Cryo Grenade
Active Immunity Grenade
Micro Cryonic Warhead
Stabilized Folded-Space Transporter

As far as Boffs go, i have a mix of Krenim and K-13 Boffs, with one special Borg Boff (my 1st officer), and a K-13 Android (don't really use her though)..

They use mostly Buffs and De-buffs with HP heal skills.. I also give tibbles that give useful buffs to Boff using it or to the team... My 1st officer uses the IDIC Tribble which gives a team damage buff.. Which I will use sometimes in ground TFO's if i'm not using the gambling device..

For a more noob approach than the other posts:

As an eng, I focus solely on support. I'll throw as many turrets, drones, med generators and shield generators as I can, and use autotarget for everything close to me and just keep blasting. I also use the hiplevel Breen cold autofrifle thing that just cone blasts cold everywhere. 2 tactical, 1 other eng and one sci. the other eng and sci both do healing and shield restore buffs and debuffs on enemies, and the tactical each have melee skills and dps skills, with debuffs/buffs if there's no other choice.. Use complementary buffs/debuffs. If your tactical has 50% bonus to phasers, don't put 50% bonus to phasers on the other guy. I have a few Expose type skills also on my Boffs.

I try and get it over as quick as possible. and move on with my life. I'm also a very sporadic player, i'll maybe spend 1-2 hr a month on the game

Maybe also using that FPS mode will be more helpful for you.

You could probably switch roles to a similar setup with your Boffs, with you taking the tactical role. One of my Boffs is Borg, and so am I, so not sure if that really matters. I'm assuming there resist traits and whatnot.

Assuming also you are using purple gear at minimum, even if XII, though I think my Breen gun is blue, but it scales with my level.

Just looked at my Boffs and it seems like i'm using a lot of Crowd Control (aka CC) (confuse, stun, threat to one of my tacs), and my cold gun adds to the CC with freeze.

If you put on auto shoot and just pack full of health packs, the vast majority of the game is this either way.

Had endgame gear and it revolved around basically turning off your own damage and spamming other crap. It was basically pressing all the keyboard buttons in a row and then repeating until death or victory.

Also, manually use your boff skills too. Might as well..

I usually try to go with engineers and science officers.
Engineers bring mortars, phaser turrets and healing and shield stations. Science heals, and provides buffs. No tac officers, I prefer the others.

Give your Tactical Boffs Command training, then give them the skill Delegated Devestation.. It sacrifices weapons for Team Damage Buff... (meaning buff for you...) Then manually activate if they haven't when you want/need a buff...

Should i play this game again?

a start would be getting good armor/shields or sets (rep , missions) and thenupgreade them to rank XV , you would be suprised how big diffrance it makes
(to do that cheap you have to wait for phenix box event and after getting tokens waiting for upgreade weekend , but that way you can upgreade almost all gear for a bargin , especialy if you buy technology upgreades from exchange and use them during upgreade weekend with phenix tech upgreades , 150k without dilitium cost is a lot)

You dont even have to equipt yourself/bridge officers that much , you can use lower rank weapons but armor/shield makes miracles

Since i got my heal shield/armor from fleet and got it to legendary rarity only way i can die is ether boss or death AOE in some TFO's

Other good thing to look into is perks from lootboxes , especialy one who increses your armor the less health you have and other survival perks/skills (like indirect shielding , Hive defenses)

Ignore ones who "activate every 20-60seconds" these wont save your life , invest these who ether work all the time or give you good buff or acrivate when something happens but without CD

Having atleast 2 class skills for heal/sturvivability is nice , as a science guy i got nanite health and biofilter sweap (other 3 is pure dps)

if you still die , you may also reconsider to have 2 science bridge officers for ground combat , and give them ether half skills as heals or 3/4 or all of them (nanite health is good as it self activates for duration)

Heh, saying that your personal shield and armor make you practically invulnerable makes me wonder if you actually play the game at all. Even if you select both based on survivability and upgrade them to the highest mark and rarity enemies will cut through them like tissue paper even on Normal if they opt to focus fire on you.... which they often will.

In terms of effectiveness you'll see a much bigger difference between default and heavily upgraded weapons than you will with armor and shields. This is a lesson almost everyone will learn while doing Personal Endeavors related to ground damage... trading in their usual ground weapons for mediocre weapons of the specific energy type make it feel like your doing weak overhanded slaps at enemies compared to usual.
Everything stacks , good armour , ground perks good shield and survival skills , you can check my startrek online playtime if you like I do elite missions and tfos last time I died was on terok nor terrain empire ground from boss. 3 weeks ago. Most ground DPS is from kits anyway ,weapon is just to shot between cooldowns

Autofire only seems to work for my Romulan character. I have to either spam right-click or spam the 1 key to rapidfire, EVEN with the Autofire set to ON.

What am I doing wrong here?
