Star Trek Online

So uh. Has STO actually gotten, dare I say, better?
So uh, I started STO about 5 or 6 years ago. I enjoyed it but I had to admit, I was not impressed. I thought the ship and even the ground combat could be entertaining, but the boring and repetative episodes, the absolutely absurd exaggerated animations, I remember the sheer cringe whenever an NPC would point to something. Like it was horrible I wanted to curl up in a ball and die whenever I saw it. Anyways. I would occasionally come back for the ship and character creation which I always thought was alot of fun. Anyways I returned during the Gamma expansion and I saw a bunch of stuff. So I decided to risk it and make a couple Dominion toons. It didn't matter who I was playing, I was genuinely impressed at how well done it was. Sure sometimes there would be something cringeworthy but for the most part I actually loved it, it was a truly wonderful nod towards the greatness of DS9. Not like before when I thought STO was a stain on star trek. And it broke up alot of the insanely boring story missions with some entertaining missions like Quarks lucky seven which by far had me laughing my entire way through it. Or even the final one before Home. Which had literally 1 scene of fighting and focused on story and horror and might I say it didnt do a bad job of it. I enjoyed almost every moment of it. And then the new Discovery missions. Sure they wont be getting awards, but I genuinely think they are better than the TV show. XD haha. So I dont know. I guess I just wanted to make sure it wasnt all me and that STO is actually getting better. Sorry for rambling lol.

I'm trying to decide if I should create a new account and start over. For the experience, or whatever. I last played just after the romulan expansion came out, and maxed out a romulan character. Then I just kinda... stopped playing. I think other games started coming out and grabbing my interest. Would you consider it worth starting over? Or should I just get my old account up and running?

I'm throwing in a few sloshes with ya sloshalot, while I might ♥♥♥♥♥ and moan about persistent bugs and the foundry going away or the death of the PvP; I'm still digging me some STO as well my duder.

Just make a new character on your old account. Probably the best option.

I will say, I played STO a few years ago and when they made the big graphic and other system updates, I lost the ability to play it due to my previous laptop not able to run it. After I got an upgrade, I went back and noticed that they changed a lot. While I still hate the PvP and disagree with the way they have their mtx set up. I have to say that STO has (in my opinion), gotten a lot better. I like the changes and the fact that they are continuing to give more story driven elements that are more off the path from regular Star Trek series. For a free game, I find it more enjoyable than other games. I still think Warframe is the best, but STO is my second favorite FTP game.

I like it. But I also understand it is not everyones cupcake.
From the wee beginnings up to today, Its a whole lot more going on. Grindy, yes. Bugs and glitches, yes and yes. Charming yes. Free, yes.

6K+ hours and counting here. I think that covers my part.

Just create a new toon on your old account. If you really want the restart experience, delete all toons on your account then restart from there.

Losing the foundry sucks but I never really played it anyway and if we get more content like weve been getting Im willing to pay that price. PvP - despite popular belief, isnt dead, im part of a large pvp group.

I played on and off for years, sitting at 1000h on Steam and who knows how many more via the Arc launcher (yuck!).

Oldish engine never bugged me much, but this last time I tried to get back in, I was just overwhelmed by the vibrant colors of everything.

Not that this wasn't the case before, but for some reason, now it's become intolerable to me.

There's a certain amount of uncomfortable cringing every time I swoop in on my, say, decked out Defiant with fleet phasers and the works, only to see every possible color in every possible eye cancer inducing mixture from everyone else at the same time.

Tried to take out my fleet Intrepid, couldn't get past the space magic and skills and other people's skills and space magic visuals making me feel like I should heed the warning on video games about seizures for the first time in my life.

And on top of that, the engine now really starts to show it's age.

I guess it really died for me.

Not a complaint though, I have gotten my money's worth after 5+ max level toons and also extensively played F2P before I opted in for a couple of things, and it was a fun ride.

Lol, yeah. I'll give You that. Cryptic really amped up on the colorful effects regarding spacemajiks.
Going into the various space battlezones now is really crazy. Its better to wear sunglasses when everyone starts hammering on the keys to make things explode faster. It can be really hard to actually see or even notice other players ships, due to the massive chaos of colors and effects spraying the screen. That is also one of the things I am not too happy about, but somehow I have managed to ignore it. Lucky me, I guess. :cozyteddymoo:

Funny. That was one of the plus points for me. I enjoy seeing all the different effects on screen, although when fighting PvP and PvE it gets annoying but I rarely do that. Singleplayer is tons of fun for that reason lol.
