Ground: So much better to surround yourself with tempting Orion girls rather than stern-looking Vulcan killjoys.

Ally with the KDF!
This message brought to you by the Galactic Disruptor Rifle Association.
Every time you have to deal with running around the facilities at Qo'nos you'll secretly regret having chosen KDF. Earth Spacedock is much better organized and has much shorter distances to move for all its amenities. You'll have a much easier time finding an active and well equipped fleet on the fed side, too.
On the downside, only the KDF can get the sarcophagus ship, and thus, the Mokai Raider hangar pets. That is my lone regret for having a fed-side main.
Lore wise yes. In game, other than the first 20 or so missions, doesn't make a difference. The storylines/episodes merge and all factions have the same ones.
Thing that matter are the ships available, hub worlds are different (same stuff in them though) and naturally access to said faction fleets (armada are cross faction).
Seriously though, unless you want to be flying a specific allied faction ship, Fed or KDF really is mostly a cosmetic choice for you ground team.
I Played The Tutorial Of The Two Factions
The FED You Lose Your Captain In The Tutorial And Frank Drake helped the Player Captain klingon discover And The Other Klingon son of abassador wolf the real treat of their empire Even Though Their Enemies And he became a prisoner And He Always have a escape play
The KDF They Are Really Aggressive And Blinded By There Honor To Discover The Real Treat Of Their Empire But They Do A Good Job At Beating The Heck Out Of Their Enemies
And I Choose FED
Yes, if you choose to start TOS or DSC character (which btw, is a FED only choice). If you pick "normal" FED you don't "die".
