Star Trek Online

Why can't I purchase a fleet ship?
I am attempting to purchase the Chimera Heavy Destroyer. It costs:

- 20,000 fleet credits, and I have 270,000

- 1 fleet ship module, and I have 1

- 1 starbase military fleet ship provisioning, and I have 61

And yet, I cannot buy the ship.

I am told that the other requirements are

- Vice Admiral rank (I am Fleet Admiral)

- Spire level II (We are halfway to level III)

Does anyone know what's going on here?

Also, here's a screenshot.

Go to your Fleet's Starbase, then get it from there... Take a look at your fleet's current Shipyard Tier level is... Then take a look at if you have fleet store's access (meaning able to buy from the Fleet NPC's) then take a look at what your fleet's current number of Military Fleet Ship Provisioning is..

1 count of Military Fleet Ship Provisioning = 1 ship... If that number is zero then no one can get a ship... Also Fleet leaders or those members with granted powers can lock down resources from being used by members (something poor or cheap fleets tend to do)...

Most importantly though, i think that ship also requires a player to have Veteran Rewards points.. And also isn't something a Jem'Hadar Fed allied toon can get either...

I am at the fleet starbase. Provisioning is 60, and I only need one. No problems there. I don't believe its locked down, since I see no indication of that, and other people have gotten ships.

My account is more than 1000 days old, so I'm good in that department. And I'm plain old vanilla Starfleet, so no issues with compatibility.

The error message I get is "Required: Vice Admiral rank, Spire tier 2"

Both of those conditions are met.

Yeah, but do you have a LTS or is your sub over 1000 days? The Chimera is exclusive to the LTS ($300).

It's not account age.

Veteran Rewards points are from back when game was P2P before Perfect world bought the game/rights back in 2012 and made it F2P.. Each paid day = 1 Veteran Rewards point... But they did away with the scrip based accounts and just offer the lifetime gold thingy thing (as far as understand)...

The Fleet Chimera Heavy Destroyer is an Admiral (Tier 5) level Federation Destroyer. Players can obtain the vessel through the Shipyard for 20,000 Fleet Credits and 1 Fleet Ship Module, as long as the player's Fleet has a Tier V shipyard. The player must be a Lifetime Subscriber or have subscribed for 1,000 Days.

Okay, well clearly one of you is wrong, because I've been given two directly conflicting pieces of information here. Why don't you two sort that out?

If I'm not eligible for the Chimera, then fine, I'm not eligible. But that's not what the game is telling me. It's telling me I can't buy the ship because I'm not a Vice Admiral with a tier II Spire.

No, we're both saying that the ship requires you to have the Gold subscription (which has been retired) for 1000 days or have bought STO's LTS (lifetime subscription) in order to purchase the Chimera (and its fleet variant). If you do not have the LTS or are not a 1000 day veteran (you'd have a permanent XP boost buff if you were), then you cannot buy the Chimera.

That's probably why the Required text is shown at the bottom, despite you meeting the listed requirements of being Vice Admiral or above, and having a T2 spire. In Cryptic's infinite (lack) of wisdom, they decided not to put the 1000-day flag in there in order to tell people why they can't get the Chimera.

Huh, okay. So the one high tier ship that doesn't require months of dedicated grinding/a wallet to acquire, can only be purchased if I spent money on a subscription?

Utterly fantastic.

I think I'm off to go play another game then.

The summer event that's rewarding a T6 version of the Risian Corvette, a decent ship imo (I have the T5 version from way back when) should start fairly soonish (end of the month maybe - not sure). It's a decent grind, of course (the summer event, as most events in STO, is pretty much a login event except you have to do a small amount of content to actually get your tokens), but it's an accountwide no-gamble unlock so.

I wouldn't consider the chimera high tier myself. It's a T6 yes, but that doesn't mean it's better than a T5-u nicor or a different lockbox ship. The advantages a T6 get are access to specilization seats and an additional boff ability.

You'd more than likely be better off getting yourself a T6 Fleet Miracle Worker ship... (The Shepard) If my Fed toon didn't enjoy the Kelvin Intel Dread like I do, that would be one of 3 I'd pick up and use my Linked-Phaser DHC set i made for him... (I still might get it since i have 13 Fleet Ship Modules)

Cause that ship looks 1000 times better than the POS Walker i made the mistake of getting back in March this year (failed to look and see if it could use DHC or not, it can't)

Eh, I don't even know. I've found this game to be less and less enjoyable as updates roll in. There was a time (way back in the day, like around 2012) when the game was fresh and exciting, and going boldly where no space game had gone before. But I feel as if it's failed to progress in any meaningful way from there. PVP and PVE have both been mostly ruined by the power creep.

The progression to level 65 is essentially one long tutorial, at which point the real game begins. But there's not much in the way of gameplay at level 65 besides playing the same raids over and over again to grind for reputation marks and loot drops. All for the sake of getting new equipment to use for running the same raids over and over again. Rinse and repeat.

Singleplayer content has gotten progressively lazier since around 2016. They're just cutting and pasting historical archive footage in from Discovery now. For a game that takes place several hundred years later. Meh. I can't be bothered.

For a multiplayer game, Star Trek Online feels very, very lonely. There's no real reason for me to interact with other players in any way. I raid with whatever group of randoms I drop in with. I've never exchanged a word with anyone in my fleet. Since, you know, there's no point.

And the end game level ships and equipment are kept locked away behind a pay-wall. In the end, it all comes down to scrounging lobi crystals and the dilithium 8000 per day hard limit progress cap.

Any one of these problems individually wouldn't break the game for me. But you put them all together, and I'm just not interested anymore. I'm off to go play EVE. If anybody wants to join me, add me on Steam, and we'll go be space pirates.

I don't play STO much anymore for exactly the same reasons, EVE(spreadsheets online) gets pretty old pretty quickly as well.

The only MMOs I play these days are Final Fantasy 14, and Phantasy Star Online 2.
