Now, to be fair, I never like the Paladin class so I'm inherently biased against it, but the Vanguard ships are strong ships always and their unique mechanic is not only one of, if not the strongest of the special mechanics, but also very versatile.
Paladin is a bit more tactically focused in that it has one more tactical slot and maybe better tactical seating (as well as a slightly better turn rate) and it also has the cruiser command to reduce weapon power cost. If you're really into using DHCs then that may suit it better. The Vanguard Dread turns slower, and is probably best suited to beam banks, but it also has a hangar for supplemental damage (and gives you access to the gunboat frigates).
The Vanguard Dread is a much tougher ship than the Paladin.. better shields, better hull. It's Vanguard escort fighters can also be used to heal yourself if need, when not busy spraying enemies with cannon fire. If you've gotten used to the resiliency of the Undine ships you may find that more comfortable.
Thanks for the reply! I'll keep that in mind before making a purchase later on during the day
I'll echo what voodoo mike says. Vanguard dreadnought is the way to go if you want a good first T6. It's rather tanky, the trait is solid (although not a meta pick), and the console's not half bad imo.
The T6 mastery can take a while, and the ship doesn't turn worth mentioning, but those vanguard wingmen are rather nasty and can provide decent healing too. Plus, as voodoo mentioned, the vanguard gunboats are pretty worthwhile too.
I would suggest watching some videos players have uploaded on both of them on Youtube.. Timberwolf goes into detail on things with his videos...
Personally though for your first Fed T6 ship, you might want to get the Arbiter... I used the free T6 coupin on my only Fed toon I have parking my Kelvin Intel Dread to get the mastery trait..
I've since then bought the T6 Fleet version and i'm still using it with him... It cuts through mobs of ships like a red hot katana through paper with an Aux2Batt build...
Yep, I'm sold. Thanks for replying guys! Unfortunately I'm going to have to wait for the next starter sale since the place I bought my steam wallet keys from sent me the codes after the sale ended which annoyed me to no end. For sure I've seen reviews from Timberwolf and co and I'm still rather split on which to choose, hence this discussion page.
Thanks again!
Yeah, i say Vanguard Dreadnought Cruiser also.
I actually do! Though right now he's dead weight since I only made a Dominion char to play through the story segment. Also, chalk another up for the Dreadnought Cruiser. Thanks for replying!
Gasp... Well do you have moment... Elder Malik'itan would like to talk to you about his lord and saviors.. The Founders... (His name just reminds of those silly mormons that ride bikes knocking on doors for 2 years and claim that they can only say their name is Elder..)
Anywho.. Elder Malik'itan is one of if not "THE" reason to make a Jem`Hadar toon (I finally made one, after saving up around 30 different doff packs to kickstart his endeavor on grinding the Commendation doff assignments)..
Elder Malik'itan is an Epic Warfare master Doff that you can earn through getting Rank 4 in six Commendation categories with a Gamma recruit Jem'Hadar character... Once that is done he's then unlocked for all other characters on that account as well... and he gives a +10 all damage that stacks with other warfare doffs... He also ignores the only 1 assigned warfare master at a time rule (just like the Doff Neal Falconer and Ang the Vicious), can be placed as active space or ground..
He also does do windows, if assigned to cleaning tasks on your ship..
At first I thought you were joking lol. But I should really go ahead and invest some time into my Jem'Hadar if what you're saying is true since that would really help out a lot. Thanks for the info!
