Klingons... why even?
Okay, sorry for the title but I have no real idea on how to summarise my feelings for Klingons - more specifically their in-game content – in a simple title.

I'm currently playing a Klingon, yet, in all the new episodes, that is more or less ignored. The first few episodes were actually gated by faction, meaning being a Klingon, fighting against the Federation, uncovering an internal Klingon plot, etc.

I get that only the first few episodes could be faction gated, both to keep the programmers sane and to not force players to play all factions just to see all of the game (although in my personal opinion... that ain't a bad thing), so, seeing them going the route I know from Guildwars 2, that being that the formerly warring factions unite against a common enemy felt logical, now I was fighting mainly for the Federation, yet, there was an actual reason to.

And with that, we come to the newest episodes in which all that I described... pretty much seems to be forgotten and thrown to the sidelines, the most egregious example would be Downfall where I'm called in to help Starbase 1… against Klingons, and not like before some rebel faction that wants to sabotage the peace… no… just Klingons, one of the Admirals – to my face – called Klingons cowards. Yet, despite the fact I AM a Klingon, I had no dialogue options to “remind” him that I'm currently sitting in a Bortasqu War Cruiser and would very much like to have my honor restored by blowing him out of his ship. I even have to scuttle the ships so they don't fall in the hands of the Klingon Empire – which I would like to remind again is the faction I play.

All that to basically say: In the newer episodes, the player, regardless of actual faction is treated more and more like a Starfleet officer, not even a member of the alliance the Federation and Empire brokered but a literal Starfleet officer.

Sorry for this rant but, I just had to vent my frustrations at that somewhere as this takes pretty much all immersion out of the game for me. And… I suppose is my way of asking if anyone else here feels the same or if I'm alone in that.

I mean i have played all the factions at least once and I do enjoy them all and love Klingons i find them really hot looking but I still prefer Starfleet overall because they typically have cooler ships and they have my favorite Star Trek ship of all time the enterprise and plus phasers sound cool then disruptors and also it doesn’t really matter at the end of the day who you play us in this game because it’s an online massive multiplayer role-playing game, so it really doesn’t matter what faction you play as as long as you enjoy the game, then play whoever you wanna be
I only made it through the first paragraph. Its a game and play it

BECAUSE everyone plays fed, and so if you play fed too, there is nobody to fight in KERRAT.

also, because the devs want you to play, twice.

as for content- literally all gameplay for the ground, and all story in sto in general is literally the worst quality in the industry and i dont play either. it is simply not fun. it should have been mass effect on ground.

art is great tho.

im here to measure my mind against others in pvp by comparing space builds in combat in KERRAT. hmu for PVP help.

The Federation side has cooler ships because they make content for the players, and the Fed side has always been more popular. When the game launched, the KDF side wasn't even finished. The first story mission started at level 20, but you made a KDF character at level 1. You had to PVP for 20 levels before you could start the missions. They later changed it to starting a KDF character at level 20, but only after reaching level 20 with a Federation character. And then changed it again once they finally added in level 1 missions for the KDF.

Starfleet is preferred because not only do the shows focus on Starfleet and the Federation, but the developers of the game favor it as well.
which is why new content is always cross faction- and ships can now be used as well by anybody provided you got a kling to 65 afaik or buy that option.
account bank even lets you switch stuff easier. its a different game, klings used to have different consoles or other slight differences.
now its much less pronounced if at all and i barely mind. i can buy 1 ship instead of having to get the 3 ship pack so i normally get the one i like best
Roleplay is a valid form of gameplay. It's daunting when the game cowtoes specifically to one faction. I prefer my Klingons and always will. I've been playing since it was possible to do so. I have my preorder gear :) Each faction is it's own entity whether some like it or not and those deserve the exact same amount of attention (and episodes).
I don't mean to shake the weasel into your cereal here, but KDF content in general has increased massively over the years in comparison to the first 5-6 years. Splitting hairs over dialogue options seems a bit futile IMO. And nobody is keeping any RP gamer from yelling at their monitor in any special manner they want, regardless of the options. It ultimately culminates into pew-pew anyway.

Game it so, Admiral.
erm, we kinda had hoped for more factions, romulans, dominion , heck cardis and our corporate overlords the ferengi. bit like microprose birth of the federation or the st mod for stellaris.
but only roms got their own hq and noones faction missions lasted forever.
To OP:
Worf: We do not discuss it with outsiders.
There are no factions anymore. That is holdover from the early days of STO. Is it good? No. But that is the (financial) reality. Feds have a waaay large player base than the rest. That is STO today.
And I play Romulan...

Not true.

While they did (as of the 11th anniversary event) allow cross-faction ship unlocking, and the storylines all merge together, the fed/klingon dichotomy still exists for fleet purposes, and also for teaming (outside of auto-teaming for TFOs), and for ships for those few people who have yet to unlock the cross-faction ship unlock.

You also still can't visit the other faction's homeworld(s), and you still get either Diplomacy or Marauding doffing, not both.
