Ship tiers
Do ship tiers mean anything besides more consoles and ability spaces or is it all about what equipment you have? The T3 science ship is friggin ugly, I prefer the tier 2 one a lot more.

So if I put the equipment from my T3 onto the T2 will I be at a huge disadvantage?

Well, lower tier ships also tend to have less weapon slots on top of the fewer console slots, so that directly affects your damage output.

But generally, yeah sure you can play fine with a lower tier ship up to a point.

You can most definitely play to T4 with a T2 ship, absolutely.

Just don't get it into your head to use a T2 ship in STFs towards the endgame.
Or don't show up with good gear on a Miranda class ship. It's funny once or twice, but you will get a lot of hate for it ;)

Episode content may get too hard at some point using way lower tier ships, too, but you will notice that.

But on the whole, since you are still leveling, absolutely use the better looking T2 over the T3 if you can manage with the difficulty (which isn't all that difficult mostly).

You could even try playing the T2 after you got the T4 (the last time you get a free ship during the leveling process), but it will get significantly harder then. Still not impossible though.

Thanks, I just need 9 levels until tier 3. It will be nice when I get up higher and get the same ship model for admiral.

max your difficulty settings and go to the next tier when it becomes impossible

I have the Voyager type ship as of now. I notice there are upgraded versions of the low tier models once you get a higher rank, do they only have additional consoles and stations or do their stats upscale as well?
Vellari Jan 2, 2017 @ 11:41am
Stats do scale up, but majority of it will come from your equipment at the end of the day. Partly why a T4 ship is good enough for endgame content aswell, if you know how to ouffit it and choose to do so. Not that higher tiers ships aren't better, they are but a T4 will do.

In case you did not know, a T4 ship is the last freebie. Everything above that costs either EC, DIL, Zen or Fleet credits (or a combination of said).

I think that does depend, you can get T5 ships for free too. Especially for veteran rewards, the KDF get a ka-fi carrier. T4 are fine for end-game, personally I'd go T5 if you can find one you like the look of as they can be upgraded to T5-U.

When you hit T5 the teirs after are usually about console slots.
T5-U gain +1 console slot ( Eng / sci / tac depends on the ship )
Fleet ships gain +10% Hull, +10% shields and +1 console over non-fleet ships.

Bummer, thanks for the heads up, at least I can start saving now.

The way this game works, basically you can get a couple of free tier 6 ships (sometimes more) every year just doing some events (all the "free" ships are tier 6 since a long time ago). You only have to need patience. And in this game, you better have a lot of that..
True, but you can't exactly choose the ship. They are always (almost always? Can't say, correct me please) from another faction than the three main ones.

Still, "free" is free so yes this would be a way to get a "free" T6 ship.

Sure beats grinding for the Zen to buy one from the store.

Yup, event ships are cross-faction, for obvious reason.

something for 'veteran rewards' is not 'free'
like when they say they are 'giving' you a free bottle of ketchup if you buy 2.

Could be argued those are actually the most expensive there is. It's either 300$ for LTS (or 200$ on discount) or 1000 days subbed (which I think is even more).

Oh for god sake.. this is an mmorpg. If people dont have patience for grinding or they just need to waste money asap to get a ship they "think" they need.. please find another game, seriously.

This is one of the few games that lets you get premium items and currency by just playing. IE: trading dilithium for zen. Just like how you can use in game money to pay a subscription in EVE online buying a PLEX.
Irradiot Jan 4, 2017 @ 11:49pm
i do like that; a real reward for being a faithful player, and you don't have to specifically grind for zen you just get dilithium from wherever for whatever, and can exchange it or not
Irradiot Jan 6, 2017 @ 3:43am
i might buy a lifetime to it one day, if i feel i have the free cash lying around, but not right now; i'd like to get a champions lifetime, just to be able to remake a character i made while subbing for a month; but it also is a dead game; if the pvp queue is empty, game is dead, imo
. i don't play champions anymore, cause their f2p is so gimped, but i play sto occasionally
