Turning items in for dilithium ore
So I have a few very rare items in my inventory that can either be used to obtain mk xii gear, or turned in for dilithium ore. I would like to turn it in for dilithium ore but I don't know where to go to do that, since I can't do it directly from item inventory. How do I do this?

We would need to know more about your items in order to be able to answer this question.

It sounds to me like you're a veteran player who has come across the 'Omega Task Force' glitch, from when they changed the rep system. I didn't have that issue, so I can't help.

Well, I can tell you that we used to turn those items, the ones I think you have, in at Deep Space 9, to the Omega Task Force there. Don't even know if they're still there.

But try giving us more info to work with, like Item names or whatever. Not that I will probably be back, I rarely return to posts because, frankly, I don't have to.

I have a 'Borg Neural Processor' 'Isomorphic Injection' and 'Voth Cybernetic Implant' which have the option in the 'info' tab to either obtain mk xii gear or turn in for dilithium ore. And I would like to turn them into dilithum ore I just don't know how or where to do it with these items.

Ah, okay. That'll be in the reputation tab. (press U, on the top bar "reputation").

Find the appropriate reputation, for example Omega for for Borg Processors. There are three slottable projects. Turning items (or marks) in to dil is in the bottom slot options (the two other are for crafting reputation items).

Sounds like you have not done any reputation stuff at all. You really should (even if you won't craft the gear) as they unlock very important traits.

This, plus examine exactly if you really want to ditch those items.

I personally still prefer Fleet gear over Rep gear, but there's some fun stuff to be had and powerful combinations when you manage to get a set.

But yeah, even when you don't want any of that, still do the Reps all the way through.

On top of nice passives / actives, you also get a big chunk of raw dil for completing them.

Quite right. 50000 dil per reputation completed. How many is that now....9? So 450000 dilithium right there (takes a while though).

Yeah but it adds up, and it's not as if you are grinding that crap.

You just set the daily and are done with it.

In the long run, it really does cut down on grinding for a while.

I'd rather get 32k dil in a few weeks than grinding that amount every other day.

Then again, it's a one-off, so there is that. Still worth it IMO, since you do not actually have to work for it. And you get more or less usefull skills doing it.

imo, keep the borg stuff. I run a borg set on every ship I do and even on escorts I'm virtually indestructible. It's OP as hell when you mix it with a cruiser-My T6 Rezreth with the borg set plus some AP stuffs got first place on crystalline entity, never moved from the spot it was in, and never went below 50% hp.

admittedly I have a tank build anyway, but the borg set goes marvellously with just about anything, I've found.

I found that the lvl12 items you get aren't really worth the energy credits when you pay what 7500 they are only worth 3000 if that if you don't want the item and recycle it although you get a bit of dilithium in the transaction it kind of converts a small amount of energy credits into dilithium and if you're lucky you'll get the odd item that is desireable but by far it is best to simply buy stuff from the exchange than either try to upgrade it, which is disproportionately expensive to energy credits and dilithium. For example I had a level 11 deflector that I wanted to get up to level 12 but would have cost 150,000 energy credits and 10,000 dilithium to upgrade but you can just buy the level 12 off the exchange for a flat 7500 energy credits - so there are some transactions not worth making.

When you have a new character if you kind of hold off upgrading stuff early on and save up as much as you can then you will save a fair bit if you just use the exchange when you want to upgrade something just search and buy the item you want usually there is a heapload of it available a lot cheaper well just one of my noob mistakes

also just started doing reputation thingys and seemed to have picked up various borg implants and voth stuff on missions & traded them in for dilithium but sometimes you can only complete one of those missions every 20 hours or something I'm not sure what the best way of doing it is yet there are so many details in this game I haven't got around to looking it all up yet & it don't always make sense to me!

Very true. That's why no one upgrades random stuff. Only upgrade equipment that is worth upgrading all the way to XIV (quality is secondary, but to maximise the chance of quality upgrade start upgrading all the way from Mk II).

but at the end of the day, someday the game is going to peter out probably like EF1 & 2 and all that effort would have been for what? I've enjoyed what I've played so far but there are parts that seem a bit dated & even ropey while at the same time I think the romulan world is much more beautifully realized than the starfleet story ultimately there will come a point where I'll have done much of the game. Star trek seems to be a bit on the rocks these days. If they chucked all the lore into an mmo, well where do you go from there? Keep trying to prop it up or what? A standalone game would seem limited in scope in comparison yet there are a lot of bugs in the existing set up that don't seem to be pro-actively repaired. The duty officer system is one example. People grumbling about the lack of PvP? Doesn't really bother me. I liked the PvP in EF1 a lot but then it didn't come loaded with a fleet system where people put so much on the line and there was no possibility of player exploitation. MMO's that don't really seem to care about it are risking their fan base.

The strength of this game is that it has a lot of all things Trek in it so if you like the tv series and the movies you can see all of it or much of it in the game. But to me that isn't so much about getting hold of the super upgrades. You can finish the story at a certain point and that will be it & when it gets to a point of samey oldness well it's just over fairly quickly. So I probably wouldn't invest so much in it that it would be disasterous to not get level xvi gear. Well I think we'd be lucky to get an overhaul of this game and luckier still to get new episodes in the form of standalone games. The problem seems to be a shortage of really good original ideas. Or maybe they could just try to push closer to what exists in the TV series & films so you just get to enjoy the Star Trek universe.
