Because if not, it just may be that your friend or you are simply not of a high enough level to be allowed in, cancelling the queue for the whole group.
If you already did it together (or at least both have the proper level for it), sorry, no idea.
Edit: As always, I'm a bit out of the loop. Is it even possible to group into a Red Alert? Sorry if that's dumb, it must be at least half a year since I did one of those. Just in case you are not supposed to, as that would explain why a group member prevented you from joining. As, in: You had a group member in the first place.
Sorry again, just a random thought. As I said, not too certain about the Red Alert specifics anymore.
Level restrictions may be your problem, or map restrictions.
