But in the end, it doesn't really matter at all and damage type is mostly a question of taste.
ALL types are viable, as long as you don't mix them.
I personally use corrosive plasma on my one Tac escort and they are pretty beast with appropriate extra buffs.
And I generally like hybrid weapons - you have the basic stuff + extra procs, what's not to like?
Explains the price though. Still, I like canon weapons even more (all my feds have at least one Phaser loadout with Quantum / Photons).
And yet corrosive plasma is one set I still use now and then. Maybe because it was freaking expensive to kit myself out, and, well, it works.
Is it worth it? That's for you to decide, as I initiailly said.
Sort of correct.
Regular plasma just has plasma DoT.
Romulan plasma has (in addition to plasma DoT) -10 damage resistance for 15 seconds
Corrosive plasma (in addition to plasma DoT) has a scaling damage resistance from -1 to -20 over 20 seconds.
Edit: Haven't done the math but eye-balling it I'd say Romulan is the best of the three as the damage resistance is immediately -10, where as with todays dps curve very few targets are even alive for 20 seconds for the Corrosive to max out.
mixing is no problem you can have 200k + dps even with a rainbow layout.
For beginners / intermediates I still stay don't mix unless the damage type is the same.
Not to mention that rainbow ships look kind of stupid. When I play, I don't want to play a disco shuttle. But that's just me of course.
