Best turret for a starship?
I know turrets aren't all that great, but overall which is the best turret to mount? I primarily have a phaser beam weapon, with one fore and aft torpedo, starship with a bunch of reputation consoles. I'm using a turret because as by sto.gamepedia says they're good against fast moving targets, fighters. Currently on navy warships they use the phalanx CIWS and I feel like turrets in STO fill that role similarly? I'm just trying to keep my starship in a multirole and can stand alone if necessary

Turrets are cannon weapons, so if you're mostly mounting beam weapons you may not want to mix and match. I'm not aware of there being any difference in weapon types in terms of hitting "fast moving targets" - fast movement usually means +defense, which you combat with accuracy (though rarely needed in PVE).

Instead, consider an omnidirectional beam array in that slot.

Beam fire at will is a nice counter to fighters and destructible torpedoes. It's not a weapon per se but it fills the close defense roll you're looking for.

Btw, we are saying this because it's generally a bad idea to mix weapon types.

I thought so, that's what I'm hearing and reading on other forum, so I'm just sticking to beams.

I like the heavy bio-molecular turret (phaser or disruptor variant) from the Counter-Command Reputation. There's also Trilithium-enhanced phaser turret from a recent mission that's neat.

You're right again n3mes1s, turrets are pretty useless. I just stuck with beams. I just ended up using 3 omni-directional weapons in the rear

Omni-directional weapons ftw, when running a beam-boat.
Although, I do remember I had a Ferengi ship with a motherfu[BEEEP] Heavy Cannon/Cannon/Turret + Mines, setup.
My trick to being successful with this, was to be able to subspace-jump on their six, Unleash chaos, put the ship in reverse, throw mines, some nasty Tykens Rift and/or Gravity Well, and continue in reverse blasting things to smithereens.

Now, they are, yes. Your point being is?

Mines are for fun. They're the only active playstyle weapon, in the sense that you ironically have to do more aiming with mines than with shooting weapons. I guess ejecting warp plasma kind of goes on that list too. I prefer them to Attack Pattern Press-Button-to-Magically-Do-More-Damage-For-No-Real-Reason skills, unless I'm in a queue that's going to whinge about inefficient dps. Then instant brainless damage is the way to go.

Having an odd build can be fun. The most effective stuff can sometimes be boring after all.

STO's so easy though that if you have a modicum of intelligence you can make a rainbow build work.

I never take my "for fun" builds into the queues though.

I did come back to STO after some years Pause and was testing weapons on my Faeht Intel.
In one of my Test runs i armed my ship with only Mines and one Torpedo launching Mines.
And i had alot fun with it.
Romulan and Faeht Intal Ship + Mines is really cool if you want to do more then press the "fire all weapons" button.
You can use the short Teleport to "blink" right behind the enemy Ship (after 5 times you know the distance you need to pass is) and launch all Mines directly on the enemy. Alot Ships are just terminated if you do that.
Or.. with improved Stealth you can just sneak on an enemy, like a Truck unloading its freight charge with mines.

But fire on the enemy, teleport behind him and unload 3 clusters of mines with the Bridge officer skill to make more mines is really devastating.
The bad thing is, it needs some Micromanageing and has alot cooldown. So its not worth the efford. But really possible to play with.

Or you could just take advantage of the Faeht's enhanced battlecloak, get close to your enemy, unload, and recloak (which the power automatically does).

Thats what i wanted to say with improved stealth :)

I've often thought a build like that would be fun, although quite terrible.
