Well... at the time it was made TCS was considered the dumbed down/for kids version of Starfleet Battles. I'm not sure that was a fair assessment, having played both, but certainly it was looked down on by the Battles folks as being simplistic.

That'd be about right. If you want to see dated art look at the stuff for Starfleet Battles, which I'm pretty sure was first rolled out in the late 70s...
