Joining a Fleet
Is there anyway to find out information on Fleets without becoming a member first? A website perhaps? It appears to be "hit or miss," either you get invited to a long established Fleet, or you don't. There is no way to tell by the Fleet name alone. There is even a danger of someone just randomly picking you out of a crowd at a base to be the 6th member of their brand new Fleet.

Since Fleets play a vital role in the end-game, it would be nice to be able to read up on the various Fleets and ask to join the one's you like. It would also benefit the Fleet since they are gaining a willing participant instead of a random captive who isn't sure they want to be in that particular Fleet.

At the very least knowing the size and/or age of the Fleet would be useful information to know prior to accepting membership. Large Fleets will tend to be less exploitive and demanding of its members than small Fleets just starting out. Fleets that have been around along time and are well established is also something that is desirable by new players.

I run the Tier 3 research lab combat performance that gives bonus weapon damage to members. What else is there that you can't get from a map invite to a higher fleet from time to time?

Fleet ships can't be purchased from other fleets stores unless you're in said fleet.

OP's asking about how to determine the quality of a fleet and how active it is. There's a way to see general info about a fleet, through the social menu, but otherwise there's not much else.

Thanks, general info is all I'm looking for, like current number of members and/or the fleet creation date, or something along those lines. It doesn't have to list all the Fleet's assets or anything like that. As you say, it is about determining quality and activity. A Fleet doesn't have to have a lot of members to be good. If the Fleet has been around for awhile that can also be an indicator of quality. Bad, or poorly managed Fleets tend to break apart rather quickly.

I know exactly what is that you mean.

You basically want to belong to a large group that has all the perks that come with being in a fleet without any of the hassle that comes with it in terms of feeling like you need to help them do group content or whatever. With a larger sized fleet it's less likely they will ever need you for anything, but at the same time they as a group are someone to fall back on for advice in Fleet Chat for questions you don't want to just post in general chat or whatever.

I'm basically the same way as you in that regard. It also becomes very annoying being out in a public space and just having people randomly invite you to their guild (that you know nothing about) to the point that if I know that I'm going to be clearing out my inventory, or setting up DOFF/Admirality missions, or anything from menus that might take awhile I just go to my shuttle bridge.

But yeah, it's like you say, you know nothing about guilds/fleets in this game. You could be #500 or #6. Some games are better about the info than others. I was actually surprised a few months ago to see that Injustice 2 had a better guild set up than many MMOs do.

Precisely. It appears the only way to get the information I'm looking for is to accept the invitations to their Fleet, then read up on their statistics, and then decide whether or not to stay in the Fleet.

I really hate joining Fleets only to leave them, but I see no other alternative to getting the information I need to make an informed decision. I'll write it off as poor program design.

Easiest way, and yes annoying, is join to see it for yourself. I personally suggest doing the following:

1) Join the fleet.
2) Find out what requirements there are like what do you have to do so you can shop at the Fleet stores, are there other requirements like having to sign up and use a voice server, and how often do you have to login to remain part of the Fleet.
3) IF the Fleet has alot of members, is built up a bit (I would suggest at minimum half their holdings are max level, and others are close to max level (unless it is a newer holding that just came into the game), then I suggest giving the Fleet something like 30-90 days and see if you like it and it is for you. Leaving Fleets is easy and realistically they are rarely bothered when someone leaves within the first few months.

If you want to try a large, friendly, and casual Fleet contact me ingame at Brain@Justwanttobe and I will send you an invite to ours.
We have a Federation and a Klingon Fleet.
Starfleet Research Division
Klingon Research Division

alternate characters are welcome in our Fleets. When one character earns a Fleet promotion then ALL your characters earn the same promotion.

Even if you don't join our Fleet, I highly suggest joining one (hopefully a good one). They make playing the game more fun, allow you to get some nice special gear (space and ground), and are usually a vast library of good knowledge about the game and little things you might not find out otherwise.
