What can STO do to revive?
We need an old-fashioned big-tent revival here.
So, everybody has their thing about it. What would you do if you were suddenly in charge of STO?

me, i would revamp character animations and make space fully 3d - 360x3d, and fix bugs, and make more options for everything

Hello,

Parts of the game need to be brought up to date; i.e. fleet alerts, old battlezones, etc.... But what really needs to be fixed is pvp. The devs haven't done anything to help pvp and for such have lost about 90% of the pvp community. Plus they could fix a lot of the bugs people have been complaining about and then they might get their house in order.

This game needs a complete overhaul and a serious cut at the insane grinding system.
Fix the bugs

You would need to change a few things in this game to get it back on proper footing.

1> Kill the whales. These are people who spend lots of money on the pay to win/gambling setup. If they aren't fed regularly the cash dries up and so does the game for good.

2> Revamp all the code to clean up bugs. Bugs chase off players who would pay for the product that is now cared for by the whales paying cash.

3> Support factions equally. Feds aren't the only game in town and Romulan and KDF players need better support with content. Whales have killed this aspect and chased off potential players.

To properly fix STO you'd need to put it on life support to cut out the whales, revamp the game, and set up a model that lets it make money from the one currently in place. You'd also need to have a stream of steady new content, fixed PvP system, and other issues worked out.

It would almost be easier to start over really from scratch.

perhaps they can satisfy all sides, whales and trekkies, and trekkie-whales.
We already have the whale options, so just let that go and move on.
Focus on pvp improvements.

Killing the whales sounds like a jarjar abrams rewrite of the voyage home.

You can't really have a good game with pay to win. To have a good game that anyone can enjoy you need to knock out the whales and change how you make money from the product.

Fixing all the technical issues so that people can actually play it!

No chance of revival this time. They have fostered a type of player that is every bit as bloated and stagnant as their game.

Nothing is going to lead to a true revival. The game is what it is at this point. It's a giant, bolted together Frankenstein of an Integalactic Space Dreadnought with a turn rate of 0.1. It's not going to change direction much henceforth.

My one simple suggestion for what they can do to extend the life of the current game is to scale rewards for PVE content based on how long the queues go unfilled. They currently have a ton of assets wasting away in unused PVE events because nobody plays anything but the most time efficient/lowest effort events for the rewards. So just let the rewards naturally trickle upward over time for each event individually until players begin to think they're worth playing just as much as Crystalline Catastrophe or Infected Space. Once the queue fills, reset the reward modifier to 0 and begin again. Then maybe after a few months of collected data, set the rewards permanently to whatever on average was required to get players to play that content instead of the usual stuff. This would hopefully lead to a greater variety of endgame content being played, making the game feel bigger, less repetitive and less of a grind.

rewards are good, encourage pvp/pve groups
but eye-candy is what ppl want these days; gotta make those character animations smooth (er)

I haven't played the biggest selection of MMOs, but I can't think of any game that has gone back and seriously overhauled character animations years after release. Are there any examples of this? Maybe in all those fantasy-themed MMOs I didn't play? I think ground combat could benefit greatly from that and a more integrated aim and cover mechanic (either Mass Effect or GTA Online style), but ship combat is what sells this game, and selling ships is how the game makes money. I can foresee the current playerbase even getting mad that any effort was expended on ground combat at all. That's too bad, because I'd be up for it. I've found myself gravitating more towards ground combat over time. I don't even know what I'm looking at in space combat anymore. I can't motivate myself to keep up to date when I know my shiny new ship and skills are just going to end up in a queue for Crystalline or Infected Space again.

what is this i hear about new management?
Darth Rabis Jan 26, 2017 @ 8:21am
One thing is for certain..... instead of a 'new' ship.... I would be more happy if they allowed us to upgrade the ships/characters we already have......

Like add console slots.
Add slots for traits.
Get more points for skills progression.
Add additional brigde officer skill slots.
Add more player skill slots.

I have more consoles that are wasting away because cannot use them.

well, you wouldn't make a runabout equal to a star destroyer, but i see your point; why limit ships you can use at max level? well, money for one; they need you to buy new ships; but if you buy the upgrade then whats the big deal? like how the enterprise was 'updated' in the last episodes.
. for example, the ship you get from the steam starter package is pretty useless after a few levels, so it needs an upgrade option.
