Specialization
Hello, is there some prerequisite for specializing your bridge officers? My rank is captain lvl 35, my bridge officers are commanders, I've bought all kinds of manuals, but the option for specialization remains greyed out. All the videos on youtube are from people who already trained their officers and only explain what specialization is, not a step by step click this then click this tutorial. Can anyone lend any insight or point me in the right direction? Thanks in advance. Sorry if this is an old question.

I think you need to have invested specialization points (10 iirc) in to said spec before you can use the specialization training manuals.

And since you start earning spec points al L51, you are not there yet.

FYI, you will also need a ship with specialization seats in order to use spec abilities anyway (ground not included). and ships like that are all L50+ ships (T5,T5U or T6).

OK thank you very much.

Per the wiki, you only need to invest 10 points in a spec in order to be able to craft spec manuals for a certain spec.

However, one can't use spec abilities until 50 at the minimum (40 if you have an event ship) so it's sorta irrelevant anyway.

Ok, sorry but i'm still totally lost and confused, I'm now lvl 51, and began to specialize my avatar. However that option is still greyed out for my bridge crew. I bought a intelligence manual but still nothing. I know it probably very obvious to everyone else but I'm missing something. Thanks for all the help regardless.

On a different subject, at this point being lvl 51 the only way to get another ship is to buy or unlock a box? no more free ones?

You need to buy/craft the specialization manual, teach your boff in the skills tab, buy these respective abilities manuals, and train those in the skill tab again. Then your boffs can use the abilities on their own, granted you slot them in your boff stations.
For space, you need to grind specialization trees in the skills tab, then buy/craft the manuals and train your boffs, then slot the abilities in the stations. However, you must own a ship with a seating(s) that can be outfitted with the specialization abilities, or you can't use them in space.

Past 40 level there are no free ships available (except for event ships that are given away for free once you grind the stupid daily missions for a couple of weeks). You can purchase some with dilithium (and they suck really bad) or buy some cheap blue crap off the exchange (mirror ships and other T5U junk for 3-5mil). Then you will either pay-to-win for C-store ships or grind on 999 toons for more dilithium>zen to purchase more C-store or lockbox ships. I would not recommend opening lockboxes if I were you.

I bought a specialization manual for Intelligence, still nothing.

As said, you have to have a ship that can use that spec in order to make the manual worth buying. I'd focus on doing that first.
