For example the beam out animation (which I guess you are referring to):
23rd century TOS captains will talk to the old style communicator and have yellowish beam effect.
24th century captain will tap their combadge and have blue beam out.
Romulas will tap their wrist communicator and have green effect.
Klingons wrist aswell and red effect.
To make sense of some of the references (like the thingamybob scotty produces) you have to have played the 23c tutorial. The whole arc has the vibe it was thrown together in an afternoon by folk who never really paid much attention to time travel in scifi.
Ground beam outs (which I guess was being talked about here) are fine to me anyway. Space warp outs on the otherhand are all over the place.
