- VR videos are 180 front dome, 360 sphere/cubemap and fish eye videos, and can be 2D or 3D
- the classic videos are not VR videos and can be 2D or 3D
To magnify a normal video you can increase the virtual screen size or you can get the virtual screen closer to you, like in real world.
VR videos are projection images on a sphere surface of infinite radius. You can't get closer or increase the size of the screen.
Like in the real world when you want to see something bigger you use a magnifying optical device. When you move your device left to right also the image moves.
“without zooming options the subject is way too close to the eyes “
I think you want to zoom out.
You can do that with the binocular also. The zoom range for VR binocular is from 0.5x to 8x
Move the slider to 0.52x if you want to zoom out.
The magnification from Binocular feature is based on geometrical optics.
Some time if the video is also 3D, the person look like a giant because the video was not recorded correctly by using an IPD of 65mm for cameras or that the both optical axes of cameras were parallel instead of being crossed at a distance where the person was.
To partially fix this giant or small people issue you can use also the ‘Convergence’ and ‘IPD offset’ adjustment and increase or decrease the perceived size of a person.
There is no other “zoom” option in VHT for VR videos other than this Binocular.
I have used skybox player and deovr player (I am assuming you must have used atleast deovr. If not, please check it) as well as some other vr players. They all have an option for zooming in and out. When using the zoom feature, in the aforementioned vr players, it only zooms in and out the view and the view remains still while moving the head. Comparatively, in binocular option of VHT, suppose if I 'Move the slider to 0.52x' and fix it at that value and then when I move my head the view also moves ,as it should as per your technical explanation but it breaks the immersion. Please check the zoom feature of deovr atleast and compare the difference yourself.
Please incorporate the same zoom option in VHT, that's all I want to humbly request.
I will add the zoom you want with the next update.
