You can customize players, but again only within a certain group of preset models.
There are a bunch of different game modes, and within some of them you can make a few choices -- how many teams (in season, franchise and tournament), how many games (in season and franchise), whether to use the DH or not -- that sort of thing. But the general gameplay can't really be modified.
There are 8-10 stadiums to choose from. They can't be edited, and new stadiums can't be added.
Custom Announcers, Stadiums, Player/Ref Models, etc etc.
GMod, Left 4 Dead 2, Black Ops 3, [Insert a Bethesda Title] if you wanna take a look at how extensive.
*To clarify, what i'm talking about is to not add guns (though someone would do it as a joke). But how in depth you can go with modding. Think everything in the game at the moment including things you weren't allowed to change before. And now you can tweak it. Some maniac would overhaul the systems in place inevitably.
- Shreks as the Umpires
- Zombies in the stands of a Mario Baseball field that someone ported from Super Sluggers
- Player Walks up to the plate with "You wanna sprite cranberry" playing on the loudspeakers as the walk up song,
- etc etc
*Note: While I do list more outlandish/dumb things there would be mods as well that helps with simulation, game performance, overall look and feel with new animations for the players, new body types, etc etc. If you're worried about cheating you can have mods be only available offline or host selected mods for custom franchises/tournaments/etc
Ah... So nothing in the modding department.
