I want to play and love this game so bad. I love the comic and plan to buy the table top game at some point.

The mechanics are simple, yet rewarding. Especially when you activate certain actions in a way that right when you think things are about to go FUBAR; they let you complete the mission.

However, the glaring issue is the crashing. I have crashed 5 times with varying play times every play session. But the common is at least just under 30 minutes; with the fastest being 8 minutes and my most recent. I don't know what the issue is.

Maybe due to me skipping enemy turns via the space bar? No.
Maybe the game speed is set too fast? No.
What if I set it to at least just 2X speed? No.
Verify files and perform a fresh install? No.

It's a shame the game will seem to be left in this state, judging from one discussion thread having the Dev's say they're done with development. I have submitted error reports to the website and via Crash Pop Ups, as they've asked. But I don't have much hope.

This is the first Steam game I ever refunded. I like the art style and the ideas in this game but this is a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ $3 iphone game charging you $15 ON SALE. The fact they want $20 not on sale is insane. The game lacks any sort of depth and applying any real world tactics does not even work. Your best bet is to zerg rush every building and hope your guys decide they want to put the effort into not missing a target thats 5 feet away from them. The ability to even give your dudes different guns would at least give some depth but I guess the developers couldnt even be ♥♥♥♥♥♥ into even doing that. This game simply is a lazy cash grab with no actually depth or anything to it.

Small and heavily RNG based. No incentive to care for your fighters, doesn`t matter 1 or 4 made it to the exit, result is the same. Random events/map/objective generation will make or break your mission. For example, i were able to finish a mission to save an asset in 3 turns, while killing a single guy. In other mission i had to check every building for 5 turns out of 10, being unable to find location of target and on 6 turn enemies spawned literally on back of two of my guys and killed them. Now i had 2 guys and 4 rounds to complete mission, while still being unaware of VIP`s location. What chances do you have to hit the guy? You don`t know. What are the chances for your guys to get shot? You don`t know. Game looks more barren then some of the flash games i played more then 10 years ago. Buy on sale, or not at all, you will not lose much and it is from the person from likes turn-based games.

But in all seriousness after playing the game a bit longer, it gets really annoying to play, I like tactical strategic games like this and I understand how the devs wanted randomness and unpreedictability but damn you can just be walking along following all the rules, 2 jihadists walk out of a door infront of you zero warning, and in the same turn spot you twice, bring you straight from normal to compromised, then the whole town brings the hammer down on you. This scenario has happened to me like 3 times in the same mission and I just cant take this anymore. If Im doing somthing wrong here tell me and ill take this review down.

The lack of any oversight or actual fog of war mechanics ruins what could otherwise have been a unique tactical experience. Poor visibility, slow walk cycles, LoS difficulties, repetitive gameplay, unclear rules, and excessive randomness don't help either. I played it through twice, had some fun moments, but wouldn't pay for it.

I want to love this game since it's definitely a labor of love with all the research but there is too much RNG/luck for it to be consistently fun. Some missions become trivially easy because the objective is right next to your spawn while the same mission can have the objective be on the other side of the map; this is made all the worse by the limited turns

Interesting concept and I really liked the way it handles unidentified/unknown contacts but the gameplay itself is very plain and repetitive. There's no progression, no customization, no variety of guns. Just a very simple turn-based game over and over again. Breach&Clear for example is also a streamlined game but it has much more depth.
I saw some actual physical wargaming videos with the same title and the ruleset in those was much more complex and enjoyable.
Runs well on Linux/Steam Deck.

by all means a pretty good game for what it is, but i can't say its entirely worth 20 dollars.

development stopped mid july 2021, where the last update was a QoL update saying that there will be more updates in the future, none have come out since then, the game is more than likely abandoned, read somewhere that it was marked as feature complete and they have focused efforts on the tabletop game which i can not comment on as i haven't played it.

the novels are really good, i assume the tabletop game is too, this is fine for what it is, it's just sad to see what this could have become if echelon wanted to put more work into it. this isn't as much as a negative review as it is mixed.

This game has nothing tactical. Gameplay is extremly simple and repetitive. I also find ingame card text and jokes racist and unfunny

So after around 5 missions im refunding this game.
Its not as tactical as ive expected.


Major flaws:

Missions get dull very quickly as everything is the same every round.
The few different mission types are basically the same, except u may have to enter a house to kill someone or move to a specified exfil.
Your Operators dont shoot unless u instruct them to (or theres a 1 round lasting special event - "Always my turn" - that makes them shoot on contact even if its not your turn - the OPFOR has this always enabled, are they better trained or ur Ops just high on weed?), meaning OPFOR will move around in front of your Op sometimes with engaging them 2 times in their turn while your Op does nothing.

Nice idea, cool artstyle, cool comics - but way too shallow for me in terms of mission design and tactics.
