Note that I don't usually use this method EXACTLY, but I play it by ear. And since writing that, I've adjusted some (for example, I now turn off autoloot when I'm in my pocket dimension).
Keep in mind that there are a couple of shortcuts that eliminate a motion or two:
Shift-left-click -- on something in your inventory, it will drop it right where you are standing; on something on the ground will pick it up and place it into your inventory in the first empty spot. If it's a trap, it will first attempt to remove the trap (if it's not automatic).
Alt-left-click -- whether in your inventory or on the ground, will try to place the item directly into your lutefisk cube (it also works on un-defused traps on the ground in the same way as shift-left-click). One report suggests that the lutefisk cube must be 'open' but I have not tried it with a closed cube to confirm that.
There is a sort button, but as you probably have noticed, it's not perfect.
One issue that I've noticed is an inconsistency between how items on your item bar and ones in your backpack are handled. For example, I can't drop something on the ground directly from the item bar by shift-clicking on it. I wish I could. Instead, it transfers it to the inventory, and a second shift-click is necessary from there.
Anyway, they do take suggestions on the gaslamp games forums, and occasionally suggestions have been known to eventually make it into the game. Here's a link:
