Is there a way to get rid of Haematic Drain as a non-Blood Mage?
I, uh, went a little overboard with the ol' encrusting, and somehow I ended up with 7 stacks of Haematic drain. I'm on floor 12 right now, and haven't encountered a single one of those potions that are supposed to remove one Haematic Drain curse (and I doubt I will find 7 any time soon). Are there other ways to get rid of this (pretty much) game-breaking curse?

Nope. You're screwed. :)

Well, you have to admit that you did that to yourself. It's an easy mistake to make, the first time you make it. Just don't do that again ).

yeah I'm not complaining or anything, I was just wondering (I guess I mis-used the term "game-breaking"). I just found out that every time you step onto one of those squares with the blue outlines, the ones under a small pool of water, that replenishes your mana and health (can't remember the name), it clears 1 Haematic Drain. So technically it's possible to clear up, though it will take a while (and quite a few floors).

EDIT: didn't stop me from killin' Dreddy though

Does all of the above mean that potions of purity don't work on this curse or just that it's hard to find that many potions?

Potion of Purity does indeed NOT work on Haematic Drain. The only potion I know of that works is a Haematic Phylactery potion, the creation of which is originally responsible of Haematic Drain in the first place. If you end up with Haematic Drain any other way (due to an over-encrust, for example), you're at a net loss, potion-wise.
If it helps, I've clocked over 100 hours and haven't found a randomly dropped Haematic Phylactery potion yet, so I'm unsure whether they even drop at all.

Thanks. I'm still on my first character that I have played past dungeon level 3. Currently on level 12 and somwhere in between I acquired 1 phylactery. Don't know where or what container it was in. So if you aren't playing a mage type the only way to get hit with this curse is from encrusting?

I think so. I haven't played as a Blood Mage yet, and the only time I picked up Haematic Drains is when I seriously abused the encrusting feature.
EDIT:
I just checked the .xml files for spells, skills, items and monsters. The only item that clears Haematic Drain is the Phylactery potion, and the only spell that triggers Haematic Drain has a "self" target, and isn't used by monsters.
I also noticed that the price for a Phylactery potion is 0 zorkmids, I think that is a guarantee that it will never randomly show up in Brax' shop.

But I guess there can still be more "hidden" mechanics, such as the blue-outlined-y-square I mentioned earlier.

If you have a Paranormal investigator skill tree - you can randomly spawn a Phylactery potion by using your Xenochemistry skill. (I randomly did this once)
