Dungeons of Dredmor

Dungeons of Dredmor

Im looking for good synergy mage skills and mod suggestions.
So far i have a bunch of mods but it often feels like they arent exactly helping each other and every build slowly but surely defaults back to a kind of "warlock" build where my main source of damage will be to whack the enemies to mashed potato state.

Good mage synergy that I like to run is Fleshsmithing, Mathemagic, Blood magic, Magic Training, Ley Walker, Egyptian Magic + 1 any skill tree of choice, I like taking either Killer Vegan, Alchemy or Wand Lore. I personally use mods but most of those are for new room layouts, new enemies, or new gear, neither of which you need since the skill synergy posted above wipes both vlad diggula or lord dredmore on going rogue without any additional "help" or content.

Build goes something like this - you cast sandstorm from Egyptian Magic, it clears the whole room, Blood Magic refills your mana completely for you to endlessly repeat the process. Need big mana pool and good mana regen to sustain all mana eating buffs and because there is constant spell spamming, the skill synergy is basically meant to provide for the constant mana regen and mana drain from killed enemies, as well as stats boosting spells dmg.

Fleshsmithing provides us with zombies, skill that solo carries you through first two floors , later on the skill branch is used for HP buff and heal (also has cheap single target spell that comes handy later)

Mathemagic for teleport, nuke levels of damage single target spell with no cooldown, and a buff. Also first level skill that randomly teleports can be used to cheese the shopkeeper on early floors to steal good loot and teleport behind the wall into the neighboring room if there is stairway down (takes some tries but eventually it throws you our of the shop)

Blood magic - more mana, more int, more mana regen = more spells = more damage output = more enemies dead = more mana regenerated = more spells cast, etc

Ley Walker - same reason as previous one

Magic training - same reason as previous one

Egyptian Magic - crazy strong skill branch, sandstorm solo carries the game but needs alot of mana to cast, and in order to do damage needs to have all the buffs active which drains even more mana; so essentially the whole build is a cycle of casting to kill to cast again from mana gained

These 6 by itself is enough to wipe Dredmore and Digula, so whatever last skilltree of choice you want to fill in is up to you. Killer vegan is good for extra stats and raw health, since you will be pretty squishy as a caster, pretty much glass cannon. Alchemy and wand lore is good for enchantments and simply for bonuses potions/wands provide. Can add something completely different, or even mods.

I feel like the early game is the hardest part since you are too squishy and oftentimes might die to your own sandstorm, so make sure to not walk into it. Game-play in the beginning depends alot on what kind of gear you get early on, because getting few orbs for mana pool might justify skipping a level in mana sustaining skill, allowing for a buff or a dmg skill, or a heal

what I like to to first 2-3 floors, since like I said zombies can solo carry through first 2. On first level up I take second skill from egyptian magic to help with traps (also helps with exp a bit to get lvl 3 faster) at lvl 3 I get mana recharging skill from ley walker, and on lvl 4 I take a heal from fleshsmithing.

P.S. forgot to mention that you can abuse mana regen from kills to get even more mana by raising zombies on top of freshly killed corpses into freshly casted sandstorm that will linger for 3 or 4 turns, allowing you to spam raise zombies on the same tile and go from no mana to full in 2 or 3 turns . Same goes for certain farming mechanics such as meat farming for food or encrust with cook books or gold farming with golden books using your own zombies. Raise and repeat

Magical Law works well with any class that gives you debuff. One of its skills shifts debuffs from you to an enemy.
I also really like Egyptian Magic. Off the top of my head, I like:
Egyptian Magic
Blood Magic
Ley Walker
Burglary (must max out before late game)
Alchemy
Fungal Arts
Staves

Ley Walker kinda solves the whole mana issue with its Leyline Siphoning ability and gives you a good emergency teleport.

Psionics gives you easy ways to break walls, healing, various damage types, and a lot of other utility. Extremely useful for mages.

Burglary gives you really useful escape tools, including the best teleport in the game, on demand invincibility, and a rooting skill. Good for keeping your distance.

Alchemy = Infinite booze
