Dungeons of Dredmor

Dungeons of Dredmor

Look at me, I'm the Doctor Now Achievement
Is this achievement new? I don't remember it and it seems next to no one has it. Guides have nothing on it and the wiki mentions it and how it's not in the guides, but nothing else. Exophase only has 1 guy with the achievement and he spent 10 mins ingame and has 100% achievements, so he used a program to unlock all.

Anyone want to try to workout how to get it.
Seems to be a doctor who reference. There's Doctor Who phone booths in the wizardlands. The icon appears to be linked to the Syzygy skill in the Astrology tree.

Also as people have pointed out in other threads, it seems the developer has reappeared with a website. Maybe it's not achievable yet.
https://dredmor.com/

Signing up for the newsletter gives you this, which sounds a lot like this achievement:
"Thank you for signing up to a mysterious, Dungeons of Dredmor-related mailing list!
By signing up, you will be the first to learn about mysterious things when they happen, in concordance with the movements of the stars, the alignment of the celestial wheel, and the utterances of our beloved snake cultists. It is very important that you remain well informed about these events.
Let me repeat myself: very important. Very mysterious.
Please enjoy the rest of your day."

It is confirmed that you can't get it for now.

I remember something like this is possible if you put a horadric lutefisk cube inside another horadric lutefisk cube or something like that..

if my 100% completion of Dungeons of Dredmor has just gone to 99% due to an achievement that can't be completed... then the game designer has no honor...

I'm really hoping this is the only new achievement they add to dungeons of dredmor. It wont be achievable until the 'update' which may or may not coincide with a paid dlc. We really don't have much to go on as to when to expect a release nor what the contents will entail, beyond obvious glitch/stability fixes. We could have a whole remaster on the horizon, or just a small QoL patch. Won't know until it's properly announced.

explain the reasoning behind hoping this is the only new achievement they add?

The game released in 2011, I first and primarily played it in ~2015, I primarily achievement hunted it in 2020, I thought the studio was dead and the game was officially done, I thought I had had my fun and could put it up on the shelf and move on... now suddenly, an achievement has been added... and I am hoping this is not going to become a pattern. I'm mentally and emotionally done with Dungeons of Dredmor, I don't have fun playing it anymore, I moved on, I want to play other games, I don't want to keep having to redownload it and crack it open to hunt new achievements years after I finished. I understand there are people who played at launch who still play and enjoy it to this day, I am not one of them, I think it's good that the game's getting updated, but I don't want those updates to coincide with achievements, I want to be able to move on.

I mean... we are talking about the dev who had an achievement "Have a beer with the creators" so....

And an achievement "crash the game", which ideally should be made impossible by updates.

Then just...don't play the game anymore? No one is holding you hostage.

Simply expressing that you don't care about achievements doesn't change the fact that I do. Not returning to get the achievement once the much teased update drops isn't an option, as Steam offers no way to reset/remove a game from ones achievement statistics. Unless a future update to the achievement system changes that, I'm stuck with this, not because anyone else has a gun to my head, but because of my passion.

people and achievements are really weird... like.. people will do the most mundane ♥♥♥♥ for the digital "achievement" like playing XXX solo games in Deep Rock Galactic. they'll turn difficulty to easiest, pick the fastest missions and just do it for... NO REASON

This is true. I've blatantly gotten achievements by simply cheesing the system just because I wanted to get the little picture and for the number to go up. That's it. It's silly, and I know it's silly, and oftentimes it's not even fun being FORCED TO DO THIS BY THE DEVELOPERS :D

But like, it's also good to have a goal that you strive for. And I don't think there's anything wrong with that either.

Just as long as you know it's silly.
