hey I just got a response from Gaslamp!

Gaslamp ain't done! Something is in the works...

After someone in the other thread pointed out that the Gaslamp games website has a new splash screen announcing some kind of diggle related thing... I emailed Gaslamp and asked them this:

"I noticed a DoD4 splash teaser on your website. Any plans whatsoever to dust off the old magic and remake DoD on a new engine? You guys would still make a killing."

Just a couple of hours later they replied with this mysterious image[imgur.com].

Now, to me, a dead company wouldn't reply at all. And only a company that's actually working on something would bother with a cute and curious reply like this "MYSTERY!" image.

Let's go! Get hype! This is not a drill.

It's very ominous. There's not enough facts or media to know what is going on with any updates to this game. Of course any one out there that loves this game will actually want to see some kind of update or re-make/lease/master/vive to this game. No one really knows what this DRD X4 really means but if I had to speculate and this is entirely just my opinion, maybe they are after all working on dredmor and "reviving it".
DRD may mean dredmor, and x4... well to me means perhaps a 4th installment of dlc? We have as DLC: realm of the diggle gods, you have to name the expansion, and conquest of the wizardlands. So perhaps the 4 means the 4th DLC, and maybe just perhaps it has to do with the initials DRD.

That's all I got. I'm revisiting this game again cuz i'm bored and I'm really trying to get all the achievements. I have played a decent amount of roguelikes but this is by far my number 1 roguelike that I absolutely fully support if they decide to do anything with it.

Honestly that would be lovely. To this date, Dredmor is still my favorite roguelike bar none, it's a shame it was left so buggy and we never got that final major update. I don't mind if it's a sequel, a remake, or one final hurrah content update, I'd be over the moon either way.

There's very little like Dungeons of Dredmor that shovels so much random shenanigans at you in such an endearing and mostly easy-to-use package, and with such a unique graphical style. The closest I can think of is Mystery Dungeon: Shiren the Wanderer on SNES / DS. But while I really enjoyed Shiren, Dedmor is just way ahead in the flexibility of skills, builds and emergent properties through items and situations (and humor).

I really hope they do a competent remake on a modern engine, go multiplatform, and consider investing in a true sequel.

This is pretty cool! Never imagined we might get.. well anything Dredmor related so this is really exciting! And to those who enjoy games like dredmor, if you haven't already then check out Sword of the Stars: The Pit (personal fav of mine) and Tales of Maj'Eyal. Both essential Rogue likes.

I am glad you were able to contact someone, Level12Boss, though after this many years just getting some mystery picture seems weird. Some sort of explanation of what happened would be great, as I've had to advise friends not get this game due to the way the company seemingly dissolved and how some promised fixes never happened, just out of principal. Would love to be able to say otherwise!

I really enjoyed my time with Dredmor, only dropping after losing a massively progressed save game. Tried to scratch the itch with others but never quite landed.

Hoping for a remake / sequel / anything.

You should tell them to go ahead and buy it on sale. The game is still better than some AAA games that charged $60 for a bug ridden game that is virtually unplayable.

If they are indeed considering bringing this franchise back then seeing it get alot of sales during this steam event would be a great motivation for the studio.

I'll optimistically go with "Dredmor Dredfinitive Edition in a less jank/buggy engine, with a side of if it sells well we'll make more".
