Personal opinion here but, CO have the best character customization in any game, hands down. The modern games may have more advanced tools, like hair lenght and customizable tatoos for example, but even then, none of them archive the level of creative freedom that CO allows
even though some of those games are making the ability to choose the appearance of the armor you are still left with either having to use their armor design and have to either find it or pay for it
but here not only do you get to design your primary look, you can also get more looks for your characters
I found it all boils down to manifesting your originality and as long as cryptic keeps this an option many of us will keep coming back.
If you look at other games now a days.. most can't even touch the sheer magnitude of the interchangeable options here. Even looking back on my early days in CoH/CoV they even fell short on the scale in comparison. Looking even further into the newest dungeons and dragons systems that I originally started in early TSR days as a kid that were literally founded on pen and paper imaginative character customization and interaction yet they STILL fell incredibly short when their games came out on cpu's, consoles, and lost almost all it's customization options. DC Universe is just crushed by the options presented in Champions.
Here we can make what we want, when we want, and how we want. Slap powers on it from a large auray and a huge storyline for others to read. When it comes to customization this is as good as it gets.
If they were to make a champions 2 expansion to higher levels by adding onto what they currently have allowing us to import characters for EVEN MORE customization I'd buy the game in a heartbeat. And this is coming from an expert in games like Bethesda's Elder Scrolls lll where I literally dismissed their other games because they lost soo much customization quality the original game had that I don't even consider them part of the same franchise. No cookie cutter characters with different names for me thank you. Each character I create here is a work of art and seeing the awesome concepts others pour into the game are truly amazing.
This game in my opinion is underated and neglected the staff and additional publicity it truly deserves as a work of art that more players need to experience.
When a customization system is very flexible with tons of options but does not adversely impact usability, it's not TOO good just very good.
