Disable pacification
Is there any way to disable pacification on a started game?
The mechanic is fun when you start playing, but after 35h playing and not even close to the end of the game it's starting to get annoying.
I don't really want to drop the game because i'm really liking it but doing the same thing repeatedly gets boring.

Yeah. New Game > Character Creation: Appearance > Rhetorical Style > And in the How will history remember you? you can switch Pacification ON/Off and Auto-manage Praetorians (their skills and equipment) if you can't be bothered to do that either.
Both options were included in the last update.
See here for more.

The centurion pacification / citadel assault missions are easily the most annoying mechanic in the game.

No doubt, it was fun the first few hours, but once you spend some time gets really annoying and exhausting.

To my knowledge, there is no way to switch it off after you've begun playing. Unless there's a mod for it. You could check the nexus forums if there is anything. Otherwise you'll just have to bear with it. Fortunately for you, there is a number of them that are legion-battle based. Personally though, I enjoy them immensely (even after 400 hours) and I wouldn't have minded if all the pacifying missions were party based.

Main problem isn't that the missions are boring or badly designed but that I have to play with characters I have no connection with.

100% agree. Not everyone wants to skip pacification missions - I actually thought they were a cool part of the game, but I found it wildly immersion breaking that I *had* to bench my main character, the *commander* of Victrix. If I am playing the commander, why can't I choose to go on the mission? The commander goes on plenty of small squad missions (i.e., just about every single-story mission), so the argument that the pacification missions are beneath him is just other players trying to role play around the clunky design. The reality is that you wouldn't send your commander on any of these small squad missions because they are the commander and losing them or having the enemy take them hostage would be deemed too great a risk. The best move in a situation like this is to hand the decision-making over to the player - don't prevent the main character's participation, but sure open it up to other, generic praetorians as well. But if a player wants to use their main character and favored squadmates each time, then they should be able to do so.
