Bellius Paenula: What is the point of this character?

Does he exists purely to die? This stupid, arrogant, rude, asshat's conversation tree has, like, one dialog option that doesn't result in his death and then you get another opportunity to have him executed by Lurco. I'm just perplexed at this character's existence.

You are able to recruit him as a praetorian

I actually opted to do just that and he ended up getting drowned in a big bucket of blood. Funny thing was though as we were returning to camp, there was an event where we got a message from someone and Bellius somehow commented during the dialogue about the message even though he was already dead! Strange bug.....

I actually opted to do just that and he ended up getting drowned in a big bucket of blood. that was not a bug. Clearly you were hearing his ghost.

Yeah, that's also how I rationalised it in the game as well.....
