How do you dismantle items?
I've been given the task to have Calida's armor modified, which requires first dismantling it. Except that I can't see how that's done. The Armory is up and running but there's no option to dismantle anything. Further, Upgrades can't be done until after a Forge or Foundry has been built (which I believe happens after the Workshop has been built).

So is this a case of the task being given quite awhile before the player has the ability to perform the task? (Like, after the Workshop has been built.)

hold the RMB down, and the items are dismantled

I have noticed that items being dismantled haven't been returning components nearly as often as before

Used to be that I could scrap any and all worn or regular weapons & armors, to get the components and scrap

either my game it bugged or they changed the drop rate

Thanks. I'll give that a try next time I'm in camp.
Something I realised very late myself. You also have to 'dismantle' recipies before you can craft the items on them.

Yeah, just holding right click in your inventory does it. You can also do this when picking them up if you know you don’t want them. Same for recipes when you find them. Saves having to read them in the misc. section of your inventory.

I'm back in camp. The task for Calida's improved armor says "Dismantle Calida's amor from your Inventory." But when I right-click and hold on her current armor, it just gets removed. (And the task doesn't advance. So if the armor she _used to_ be wearing is now in general Inventory, I **can** dismantle it -- which I did -- but still nothing has happened and the quest doesn't advance. Since her armor has been dismantled, it seems the parts are availble -- along with all the other spare parts -- and the Armorer could simply make new armor ... that isn't necessarily for Calida but literally anyone in the party.

What am I missing here? What is required to advance this quest? (I'm thinking what is required is an active Workshop.)

At this point you should have the recipe unlocked in the workshop. Just go make the new set, assign a party member to work on it and when complete, the quest should finish. It’s worthwhile to do this for all companion equipment they start with as it upgrades to to actually have stats.

Three things: First, I haven't built the Workshop yet. (Armory, yes; Workshop, no) Second, the Task still reads "Dismantle Cailda's armor in your Inventory" -- which I did, but that didn't update the quest. Third, shouldn't there be some kind of ______ Armor II in the makeable list? Or a "Calida's Improved Armor listing?

Calida’s armor I is what you’re looking for. The base version you start with is a worn quality item that has little to no beneficial stats. You won’t get the II version until you build the forge/armory level 2. Just build the version of the armor in the menu that you currently have and it’ll complete.

Ah. Her _old_ armor. I kept dismantling the armor she was currently. Thanks for setting me straight.

Yeah, this isn't referring to whatever you had her wearing in that moment, it was referring to the gold trimmed unique item she originally came with. These armors can only be used by the character that owns it and is typically (though not always) the best armor you can equip them with. To upgrade it, you first dismantle it and get the unique item from it. This also yields the recipe if you didn't have it already. Then just craft it anew. In some cases its worth rerolling by dismantling and recrafting it again if the stats were rolled on the low side.

Gotta hold the right mouse down long..

Also for some reason you actually have to do the same to read the recipes. I went through like 15 hours before I realised that. :bfdeadroyal:

For special items you dismantle the initial items and you can rebuild them into the next level then after you get the forge you can then upgrade them to a 3rd item.
