Diodoros and the Gordian Knot [mild spoiler]
In his riddle game, Diodoros asks Syneros how Alexandros Megas (Alexander the Great) undid the Gordion Knot. I was given the following choices:
  • He can't have pulled on it.
  • He would not have pushed it.
  • He neither pushed nor pulled.

Now, I already knew the story: he cut it. That would fit under "He neither pushed nor pulled." So, I said Alexandros neither pushed nor pulled it, and Syneros thought I meant to eliminate that as an option, and so he failed the quest.

I understand that Syneros said, "Let us eliminate the obvious wrong answer." But in that case none of the answers makes sense. The opposite of "He can't have pulled on it" is "He pulled on it"! If the third answer were to be consistent with the other two, and with all the answers to all the other riddles, it would instead be "It can't be that he neither pushed nor pulled."

I understand that the designers must have made it a trick question on purpose. I'm saying that it doesn't quite work. Moreover, it's Syneros, not Diodoros, who made it a trick question. Whose side is he on, anyway? He's the guy I'm supposed to be helping in the first place!

I'm playing Iron Man mode and I take my lumps when I make a mistake, but I felt the game did me dirty here, and I quit and reloaded without saving so I could try again.

In full agreement. With a sole exception that I decided to roll with a failure of the quest.
