The game has a fixed linear path, the "ledgers" you need are actually the bookkeeper and the ledger is in his head.
I have played all the various permutations possible in one character and in EVERY event the bookkeeper is killed by a legionnaire named Corvus (I think that's it, memory is fading as my hair has turned grey, lol)
It's pretty tough to play a game that ends up with such horrible choices
IIRC Syneros can distract the guards, and failing that you can talk to Raia to unleash cats on the library. Both ways allow you to walk in through the front door - I don't know how to make use of the crack in the wall.
Step 1-Have your legate go alone to speak with the Ptolemy and Senator McPunchable Face
Step 2-Tell Ptolemy about the guard Miss Cleo had shanked for disrespecting her authoritah
Step 3: While your Legate keepts Ptolemy and Senator McPunchable Face busy have syneros distract the guards and take the dialogue option that you'll be peacing out while Syneros does this cause it's boring AF to listen to him
This will have you Calida, Bestiat and Caeso. Then go first to the hole in the wall then to the door. Bestiat will suggest using cats, talk to the priestess and then gather the cats. go to the hole and unleash the cats
Your characters will stroll in to the front door of the library and talk to the lorekeeper.
once there just promise to rescue him when you lay siege to Alexandria. done.
