How do you deal with invisibility (assassins)?
I've spent about two or three hours trying to figure out how to get somewhere near winning the first pacification mission destroying the lumber supplies. Given I can't use my proper party I've just got three raw recruit veles and the healer to do this is seems unbelievably hard to do this mission.

But the main problem for now is can't see any way to deal with the assassins at all. They just kill me and I can't do anything to them.

Ugh, 3 veles?? Man. I gotta say that a balanced party does wonder here.

Your main objective here is to destroy the wood. So concentrate on that over killing enemies, especially the ones by the boat where the assassins are. Get all your veles (at least the high movement) to pick up fire, then just run in range of the throw, light the logs, and then run out! Dont stay in the area to get backstabbed and then locked in combat.

Kill the first 4 enemies (the rest should stay by the docks). Then send 1 veles down the left to light those logs (3, 1 throw should be enough). Get the veles back. In the middle path there should be another bundle of 3, light it, and then send everyone to the right. Get fire, then do the throw and run outs. Should get you the victory.

Light enough logs, and the mission should end.

Can you throw the torches? How far?

Do you mean you can light more than one stack of logs with one torch?

Do you mean I don't have to actually kill the assassins to complete this mission?

you have to complete main objective which is destroy N logs/weapons/whatever. you can throw a torch 6 hexes away and if you hit wooden object with it, fire will spread to adjacent hexes.

I don't remember the specific number of hexes, but yes you can throw torches. Pick them up and they get thrown into your temporary third tactical item slot.

When it comes to setting stuff on fire, remember that wood is prone to...burning. More specifically to this, if you set fire to just one wood hex, it will spread to all neighboring wood hexes.

Always focus on the objective. You don't have to chew through a mountain of enemies to blow something up. Just get someone in position to blow said thing up. Remember that using a tactical item (like throwing a torch!) does not cost an action, meaning you can have someone do a double move to rush into position to finish the OBJ.

EDIT: For assassins, you can always just walk into where you think they are. This forces them to reveal themselves. Can be a decent job for anyone with extra move - especially heavies.

This took me awhile to figure out but if you can get someone standing directly next to an assassin, you can see them. The tricky part is they move a little once they vanish, so you either need to make a lucky guess to where they move or box them in to limit their movement options.

That said, most missions its probably easier to ignore them and go for your objectives instead. The wood burning one, toss one fire thing into each set of wood piles, then hold out for a few rounds while the fire spreads to the piles next to them and burns them down.

No, you do not have to kill the assassins. All you have to do is light the wood. Torches can be thrown 8 hexes. I tend to use two per three wood pile stack. The fire will spread and they burn down in two or three turns. You can toss torches down onto them from high ground as well, and barely even have to go onto the beach.
MOST of the time, when there are this UNFAIR settings , you only have to do a "simple" thing, like others already have described ...

kill THE Leader or destroy that wood with any fire etc.
So keep an eye on WHAT YOU HAVE TO DO and most of the time it is even easy :steamhappy:

It can also be a bit easier if you have an archer based unit with a fire arrow ability. I was able to snipe the last log pile I needed.

Thanks. That makes a colossal difference. I was just being dumb and didn't twig you could throw them. Like I didn't remember that's what you did to burn the two ships earlier etc :steamfacepalm:

I should be able to do this easy enough now.

Like your main team, hire the pretorian team, balanced, given they are 8, so 2 peeps of each class. But before that, hire the pretorian who can sit in barracks and hire higher lvl people. Then just pick what you need and keep hiring until you make "secondary team". Then arm and armor them. Because they also gain levels, give them right perks. After some time, it will be no difference what team to send - just select from pool of people, where main 5 characters of each class, plus 4 pairs of another chars of each class. Roughly 3 heavies, 3 archers, 3 rogues and 3 madics.

if possible get an archer with the ranging shot skill (preferably with the upgrade to shoot 2 arrows)
ranging shot applies spotted to everyone in the aura of where the arrow lands this applies to invisible enemies
Its in either the first or 2nd tier of the sniper tree

Aha! Thanks for that. I was looking for the True Seeing or See Invisibility spells without much success, looks like that might answer nicely though. :steamhappy:
