Need help with catapults
Hello all!

I am stumped. I do not know how to be effective enough in order to destroy the catapulta in the time we are given. Between the amount of enemies, randoms running around and locking my movement, and the health of the catapaults, i can barely destroy 2 (and on the second one ignorong the enemies killing me…).

Is there an effective strategy to destroy more of them?

My crew was myself (princips), bestia, julia, and syneros.

Thanks!

Hey man, thanks for asking! This is such a fun fight but yeah there are a few things you need to know in order to crack it.

Now first off, you don't have to destroy all the catapults. I usually only manage to get 3 before the timer is done, but that's fine, you can deal with a couple of enemy catapults in the next fight.

Secondly, look for bonfires and campfires scattered around the combat area. Remember that picking up and throwing a tactical item are both free actions (only limitation being that you can't use more than one tactical item per turn). Make sure you light the two catapults near your start position on fire as soon as you're able. If you brought an archer who has Fire Arrow on their bow into the fight this should be easy. The fire will take care of the catapults before the time is up.

Oooo. That makes sense… am gonna have to reload a bit before and prepare my soldiers with fire items

if you also have any greek fire on you its also a good way to knock one or two out, i usually move into the centre next to the fire before attacking any as that way i can light 3 up on turn 1, two with torches and 1 with a arrow. Then as i had a greek fire pot i try to push up a bit to get the very top one with that, and then a torch + melee hit usually does the 5th.

There's quite a lot of fireplaces in the map, you can grab torches there. It's all about starting a fire per turn at least :)

I managed to get 4 of the catapults! Thanks for all the advice.

(Cleopatra is hoooooot. Good job with her portrait devs!)

I found the best way is take 1 turn grabbing torches for everyone from the bonfire. You can get torches for your whole crew without engaging in combat. Then have each party member light a different catapult on round 2. I was able to light 4 of them on round 2. This will enable 4 of them to be destroyed before the timer runs out. I then fought up the stairs and lit the last catapult with torches at range.

Hope that works for you :D

I got all of them, it really is not that hard, speed and not getting bogged down is the key.

1. Equip everyone with a torch
2. Use you fastest person to throw touch on catapult to the left and then run to the right on, nearest the stairs
3. Use your remaining men to fight and beat up on the catapult.
4. Next step is to throw torch at the middle catapult, with one person
5. Remaining people move up stairs kill and dmg catapult torch if you have enough.
6. Last torch for the remaining one and defend yourself until it burns down.

I had a few turns to spare.

Interesting strategies friends!

I have managed to get 4 before I get bogged down by enemies.

First 2 I can get with fire arrows.
The one due north of us, I send bestia in to throw a torch then run back to bonfire in the middle, then next turn run up the stairs and get 1 more.
My issue is trying to get the one on the platform, furthest away from us. I don't have enough dps to get get rid of enemeis quick enough to open the way.

I took myself (princips), Julia, Syneros, and Bestia.

I did the same thing on hard. Except, instead of running up the stairs for the fifth one, I got up the ladder, tossed the torch, climbed down and dropped the calthrops near the landing.

A few of the catapults have oil barrels near them. You should go for them last because the explosions of those barrels will cause them to burn up faster leading to an earlier end of the mission.

What is the effect of destroying the catapults in this mission? Does it affect how many (squads of) NPCs join the main assault force after the "decoy" mission? I destroyed 4 catapults and, I believe, that I had 4 groups of NPCs join my frontal assault team but there may be no correlation.

It literally affects how many enemy catapault shots your other team has to dodge. If you destroy them all, you don't see any shots past the first fight. If you destroy 4, the one you missed will still shoot them in the second fight.

every catapult you destroy is one the enemy doesn't shoot at you for the next part of the siege. so if you get all 5 you dont have to deal with enemy catapult fire

i made sure to bring 2 archers with fire arrow, a veles to get torches and a shield to be a sponge. also note that you are in stealth so you have time to setup properly for optimal catapult burning so long as you don't cross a hex with a red exclamation on it.

unfortunately, while they were burning, my archers got wrecked, but we burned all the catapults

Ah yes this one pretty frustrating. Get the torch and look for the enviroment for oil barrel (there's one in first 2 catapult) and bring high movement character preferably Veles type to use tactical so they can't be hit by AoO. Managed to get all 5 burned but some of my party member got burned as well
