you capture those slaves, then sell them for denarii back at camp. There's no time limit so you can do those quests however long you like. I basically conquered most regions, and just did those slave/ration/meds quests and sold it back at camp, easily got myself around 30k, and then continued doing same thing in act 2 etc., never ran out of any resourse)

This deep economic simulation is not at all a waste of your time and I totally would not recommend using a hex editor to just add 100000 denarii to your balance.
