Game crash at main menu

Hi everyone, I've just bought this fantastic game of my childhood but I've encountered a little problem: when the game starts at the "Cold Shadow" text on Main Menu the game ends to crash saying nothing (f.e. Incorrect loading file). I've tried running it in Backward Compatibility or in Big Picture Mode but nothing has changed. Can someone please help me?

I've been having the same problem. Oddly though, the game works fine on my older laptop running Windows 7, so I suspect it might be an OS issue.

Try verifying the game's files. You could also try reinstalling it.

It can be possible but if it's true it's a little bit unfair. I run Windows 10 so if it can't run properly on it or Windows 11 they shouldn't let us buy it or maybe leave a little "warning message" in the game's specific

Thanks for the advice! Unfortunately I've tried both of them but nothing has changed. Steam itself told me that the game is fine

Gonna add onto this since Steam won't let me leave a review. The game indeed no longer works and there's nobody to contact about it. What a waste of money.

I FIXED IT! I FOUND A WAY TO FIX IT!!!
You go to Settings, then System, then Recovery, then "Fix problems using Windows Update". It takes a while but after it's done, it'll restart, log in, start the game and it's fixed! I hope this helps to those who are still wanting to play the game. If it works, you're welcome.

Are you on Windows 11? I'm running Windows 10 and can't find any option that says "Fix problems using Windows Update".

I can't find setting/system in steam
