Ghostbusters: The Video Game

Can't choose high-end graphics card
When I bought and played this game before I had it running at 60fps and using my Nvidia card I'm pretty sure.
I launched the game and it was just sitting at 30fps, went to the options and it was fixed on my integrated card and I couldnt change it. So I went to my control panel and tried and force it through there but I got and application load error and it wont start. Its rather anoying.

Can anyone help and shed some light on this?

Having similar problem. I forced it to use my 960m and it will just throw up a black screen and then crash.

Had same problem kinda, but instead of load error the nvidia panel just reverted back to integrated after starting the game.. shame

Me too. It defaulted to my integrated graphics, i forced the Nvidia card and it's now crashing at startup. It will run with integrated graphics but with the settings turned up it lags when things get busy.

Hey with a few other forum posts I found a solution, first part deals with forcing the graphics card, second part deals with compatiblity issues with windows 10 causing a blank screen on startup of the game.

1:open up the Nvidia Control panel
2: go to 'Manage 3d settings'
3: chose 'Ghotstbusters the video game' from the drop down list of games
4: Under 'select the preferred graphics processor for this program' choose 'High-performance Nvidia Processor'
5: click 'Apply'
6: steps 6- 9 - only if the game crashes on startup (windows 10 fault): navigate to your steam folder in program files, and find the ghostbusters directory (should be C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Ghostbusters)
7: right click on 'ghost_w32.exe' and click 'properties'
8 - select the compatibitily tab, check the box that says 'run this program in compatibility mode for'
9 - choose windows 7 from the drop down list. Click apply.
10 - the game should now run ok!

Hope that helps!

Does anyone knows how to do it with AMD, l've already tried the catalyst center (set to high-performance option) but it´s using the old card anyway.

I know this is an ancient thread, but I ran into this problem with Ghostbusters: Remastered (which I got for free from a different game store...) But since this is the only discussion I could find relating to my problem, I'm posting the fix here:

I have an older MSI gaming laptop with both an Intel GPU and an NVIDIA GPU. Ghostbusters would only ever show me the Intel GPU and the game ran poorly. This works on Windows 10 20H2, at least:

1. Click 'Start'
2. Click 'Settings'
3. Click 'System'
4. Scroll down and choose 'Graphics Settings'
5. Under "Choose an app to set preference", select 'Desktop app'
6. Click 'Browse' and navigate to where you installed Ghostbusters. Select "ghost.exe" and click 'Add'
7. This will create an entry in this list. Now select Ghostbusters: The Video Game Remastered and click 'Options'
8. Change from "Let Windows Decide" to "High Performance. GPU: Nvidia..." and click 'Save'

You should be good to go!

Bonus fix: If the game is not saving your graphics settings, you must create the folder %localappdata%\GHOSTBUSTERS

I hope this helps someone else some day!

Thank you very much! I have a 2020 MSI Laptop (Intel and Nvidia) and Windows 10 Home and was running into the same problem.

I also got Ghostbusters Remastered from that free offer and your help finally got this running on my Nvidia GPU for my laptop! Thanks!

Great! I'm so glad to hear it. :D I had actually even e-mailed Saber Interactive trying to figure out what to do. They recommended using the NVIDIA control panel to set the default GPU, but I had already tried that and it didn't work for me. I e-mailed them what I found too; hopefully it will continue helping people. :D

The game *definitely* runs better on my GTX 970M than the Intel HD 3000 GPU, hahaha.

Yeah I spent so much time going back and forth with the Nvidia control panel wondering why it wasn’t working.

I’m really glad that you posted the solution, thank you! :steamhappy: I think that a lot of people will need it once they get to trying the game.

This is all fine and dandy for someone who has W10 but this doesn`t work for me, who has W8.1.
I don`t have the option to "Choose an app to set preference" or to "Let Windows Decice".

The game simply refuses to start without the Integrated graphics.
If I set the dedicated graphics it always shows "[D3D11] failed to allocate texture." message.

If I play on Integrated graphics I can play for a while then the game overheats and it turns down my laptop.

Oh bummer. Sorry I didn't see this until now. That's definitely going to be a problem...

Is there something preventing you from upgrading to Windows 10? You can still run the Update Assistant and it will upgrade from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 for free still: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10

If you don't want Windows 10, then unfortunately I think you're not able to play the game... You can try reaching out to Saber Interactive -- they'll respond, though the first thing they'll suggest is to set the game's affinity in the Nvidia driver.

Sorry you haven't been able to play, but good luck!
