Retail CD Key incompatible with Steam?
Hello, I own the original 2009 DVD copy of the game, and I wanted to install it on Steam, so I put in my product key several times, and Steam is telling me that it is invalid, so are retail CD keys not gonna cut it?

Also, before someone tells me to just play the remaster, I don't want to, and I already own it, I just want the original untouched experience digitally.

You may ask "Why not just play it from the disc?" I want to preserve the lifespan of the disc.

The remaster is literally no different. It just looks sharper.

It has butchered cutscene color timing, horribly loud audio in said cutscenes, the Ecto 1-B was changed to look less like a Cadillac, the Doritos product placement has been removed, and a myriad of other differences, when you look under the hood.

Not to mention, it is not the original release

Why not copy all the files from the disk into a folder so that you can install the game without the need to put in the disc every time.

The retail keys from that game is not valid is because it is not in the steam database. They are certain games can be activated on steam such as the retail version of Prey for example.

You could try to repurchase a digital copy of the game through amazon.

Unfortunately it would be very hard to find any keys for this game. Luckily I manged to trade for a gift able version of the game just after it was removed. But now, it would be almost impossible to find a key for a reasonable price. Especially after the remaster came out.

There is a digital copy of the game in Amazon. It just uses Securom DRM instead of Steam.

Yes it is hard to a copy of this game through steam. Today, I saw one copy of this game going in around 113 dollars on gg deals. Not to mention that a DLC of Slime of Slime is going around 110 dollars on G 2 A.

if i recall from my old tech days, what your saying would work, but there is one other step, using an program like daemon tools to make a virtual CD an iso, then using daemon tools to boot it up as if it was the orignal CD that would preserve the lifespan of the cd.

havent done it before, but i recall chatter about it years ago via friends, just remember
once that virutal CD is made not to share it, as that would get you introuble

Making an Image file of the game can work too. Making an ISO file is easy with programs like Img Burn for example. Mounting ISOs is built into windows 10, so there is no need a program like Deamon Tools unless your mounting a Image with audio data.

there are ways of installing it through steam by copying files from the download on your pc. Unfortunately it wont show up as the game title on your steam page.
