I have it running at MAX Settings in 3840x2160 Resolution @ 60FPS and it honestly looks better than the so-called HD Remastered edition, so unless you want a console version, there's no reason to buy it elsewhere, especially when this version is still available on Amazon for $9.99 digital and retail copies still include Steam Keys.
Having played the original PC version and the newly released PC remaster, I can't really recommend to those individuals already owning the original, to buy again. To those who have never owned the game, then yes.
Personal opinion:
While much has been “cleaned-up” and some levels definitely have been optimised to play better (especially the last BOSS that used to suddenly play at an extremely crappy frame-rate), there are some parts of the game that seem to have been affected negatively.
While I didn't suffer any major game breaking issues(*) like some people have at launch, I experienced minor audio\visual problems that sometimes effected the flow of the game. Especially noticeable when cutting from some of the in-game cut scenes, to the playable game.
Some of the screen transitions in-game overall, didn’t appear to flow as smoothly as before and the fluidity of the game overall, was affected slightly.
However, this is all subjective to my own personal experience and opinion, for others to evaluate against.

Not yet, it'll be a free update in 2020.
it actually is, just based on the fact that it is no longer abandonware. Plus, showing support for GOOD products always leads to good things. They really didn't need to remaster much so I'm not surprised the changes were so minor.
You are an idiot. Nothing about the Epic store is GOOD. Supporting them is bad.
Just goes to show that for the last 10 years this game was delisted from Steam it could have been brought back and sold but was not worth the DEVs and Publishers time unless they get a pay check from EPIC to do it.
Just like Heavy Rain, Beyond Two Souls, and Detroit all could have been released on PC but refused to do so until EPIC decides to foot the bill for porting the game to PC.
Goes to show how greedy these Publishing companies are when they refuse to sell their own games unless someone else pays them to do it. Just sad.
Things such as the release of previous maps left out of the working version of the original for example the Temple of Gozer, or the Twisted Firehouse.
A great selling point would have been the intended inclusion from the original of Ray's Occult Bookstore complete with voice acting from Dan Akroyd.
