It was quite comical actually. Everyone was running around like headless chickens or cowering in corners, and the killer was standing there, slightly squatted, glaring at me-- following my gaze wherever I went.... But she just stood there for like........ a whole minute, not moving lmao!!! Then suddenly.... she just BOOKED IT. I had kinda been staring in shock, and I was looking at her up close, so when she finally moved, I jumped about 15 ft out of my chair and through my ceiling LMAO x'D
Sadly, I had no dang handcuffs QQ
If you are not in the area when an NPC makes the kill, I'm pretty sure the game uses its function of simulating past events when you next come into proximity. Not too differently from when you make the game generate past security photos.
They can give you one visual evidence on top of it (like the suspicious person having black hair or being of average height), but they will never identify the killer directly, even if they saw it happen before their eyes.
Turns out the husband WAS the murderer, and I caught a lucky break while thinking about how he was the only person who could do it given the time frame. Rather hilarious in retrospect that I basically caught him red-handed and didn't even realize it.
I just had a recent case where I had determined who the murderer was and while being thorough, I trailed him to a place where he attempted to murder again. I knocked him out and arrested him but unfortunately the AI didn't realise I was saving them and still tried to hurt me as I ran out of the building the hand in the case file.
Not sure though. I have not seen the code or anything.
Also i've played a seed twice so far and one time i've had the 2nd tutorial person being killed like 7 hours after i'Ve found the first crime scene and the next time the killer was still in the apartment, so i was able to prevent the second murder, so it's definitely possible to influence the RNG to some degree^^
All of this is to say- every single NPC in the game is like this. They all have a life, and they do believable things. It's pretty cool.
