Murder case went cold.
I started a new game, after all, I'm a new player.

I did the tutorial, learned the game as best as I could in the starting hours. I know I'm still inexperienced, and I feel like it, but I know that I will gain experience on this "Detective" work as I do more jobs.

I started out on sandbox mode, very large city, and named my town "Gotham". With no case in hand, I headed to the nearest city center to grab job from the board. Finally, I had work.

I called the person in need of help - someone stole from them a prop gun, a genuine piece from a movie. They wanted it back, and rightfully so.

I went to their home, talked with them extensively, they refused to answer any of my questions despite them needing my help. They gave me the green to search their home for any evidence - unfortunately for me, the criminal was too smart. He left no clues behind - after scanning the entire apartment for any clues, I realized I was stuck in that place for more than an hour, I needed more time, yet I felt like I had already done my best in that place, there was nothing more for me in that apartment.

As a last resort, I went to the phone and copied their contacts book. The hunt was on, I needed to take down the names in the contacts book one-by-one. It took me 3 hours, I had beaten up & K.O'd every single person that was in the contact book. Everyone was acting hard, not answering my questions was their mistake. I was in and out of their apartment within 5 or 10 minutes. I had grown accustomed to finding their 4 digit codes, but the item I was on the lookout for was nowhere to be seen.

I felt as if I was losing my mind, so I went to the local pub to grab a drink, chill, and rethink my approach. A murder popped up, but I had no time to think of the murder, I had a job to finish. I am a professional after all, what sort of a detective would I be if I dropped this case just to take another... it didn't sit well with me.

The hours went by, and none of the people I was interrogating were helping me, none had the item I was looking for either. I was starting to think this case was a dead end. With a few more names on the contact book, I decided to approach the couple who hired me, look into them. Maybe they had a fight, maybe one did something out of anger, out of spite. I checked their work place, their homes, their usual spots. I was getting nowhere, the case seemed to be eating away the little sanity I had left. The rain poured as I was outside, idling, looking at the night sky. A stranger walked by and accidentally bumped into me, he blamed me, told me to pay attention to where I was going. That's when it hit me.

I had checked every person on that contact book, but it never crossed my mind to check if any of those contacts lived in the same building as the victims. I found a lead, a single name, a woman, Morgan. I felt confident, I knew it must of been her. If not her, then who?

I digged deep, found out everything about this person named, Morgan. However, I had yet to find the item or meet Morgan. I waited, patiently in a dark corner, like a predator waiting for it's pray. After almost 4 hours, Morgan showed up, it was now or never. I approached Morgan, I questioned her. To my surprise, Morgan was willing to answer every question other than her name, but that was already besides the point, I knew her name, I was just testing her. She told me she didn't know the victims, but she had seen both of them near their apartment. The clues however don't lie, after doing some digging, I had found out she was the last person to call the victims home and have a lovely chat. She was lying, deep down I was smiling, I knew I was about to crack this mystery.

I asked Morgan if I could enter her premises and have a look around, she refused me. I tried to bribe her, but she kept refusing me. In truth, I didn't need her permission to enter, I was simply testing her resolve. She was trying to keep me out, but it was already too late, I had already searched her entire apartment whilst she was away. It was her that I wanted, but how would I approach this - did I straight out go for violence, or should I do this the subtle way? Before I could answer that, whilst deep in my thoughts, I had accidentally entered the premises of her home whilst deep in thought. Morgan didn't hesitate to strike me, it was either run or self-defense. I knew that if I lost Morgan now, she will hide, and it would take me time to find her. I had already spent days looking for her, my nerves were at their limit - I did what I thought was best, I punch Morgan. She was strong, her punches carried weight, impressive for such a thin and short person, she was fighting to protect her self from being caught. She knew I was her ticket in jail - she couldn't risk leaving loose ends, thus she did what she thought was best for her. However, I've been through a lot during these past few days, I've visited the hospital more times than I would like to. This case had toughened me up, I felt more... experienced in these types of situations, I felt as if my body had become used to pain. The fight lasted a few moments, she was losing, however, she managed to make me bleed, nothing I wasn't used to though, I kept going - Morgan felt fear, she couldn't suppress me, she knew her ends was approaching. As a last resort, Morgan ran towards the alarm in order to call for help, making me look as the bad guy - I wasn't going to let her do that. I stood between her and the alarm and with one last blow to the head, Morgan finally collapsed. I was dizzy, the lights around me started to blur, but I had already learned my lesson - never underestimate a person fighting for his/her freedom, even if they are in the wrong.

After catching my breath, Morgan laid motionless on the floor. The neighbors came and went, but they didn't care... cold as ever. This world is tough, tough as nails, and people have learned to mind their own business. The kindness of people is slowly withering away, they are all turning into mindless addicts of Kola. I turned my head towards Morgan, wiped the blood from my nose with my sleeve, grabbed my handcuffs and arrested Morgan. After a thorough search of her being, I found the item I was looking for in the left pocket of her jacket. Her apartment door was open, my face was all bloody, and I needed a bandage ASAP - I went into her apartment, washed my face, and grabbed a bandage I found from behind the mirror on top of the sink inside the toilet. Now I was finally ready to report my case as completed.

The victims had ordered me to deposit the item into their mail box, 302 O'Connel Apartments. My job was done, I did what I was paid to do - Morgan was a tough one, I had almost given up, thinking I would never solve this case - but, when all seemed lost, it all just came back to me, that missing link had finally appeared. All's good though, the job is done, now I can move on to the next one.

The police had reported some days ago about a murder. I had no leads to follow, but I had no fear, something would show up, the case was still open after all. I waited, and waited, the days went by, I started to fear that I might never get any leads on this case. After all, I didn't have an address, a victim to study, a crime scene. I walked into a dinner, grab something to eat and get out - as I waited in line, I saw an old man holding a news paper, he spotted me looking at him, apparently the old guy didn't like me starring at him, he mumbled something, slammed the news paper on the table and left the dinner whilst giving me a harsh look. I wasted no time, I grabbed the news paper and there it was, my first lead.

Now I had an address - I stormed out of the dinner, rushing towards the crime scene. When I got to the crime scene however, all seemed a bit off. The place barely had any furniture, and there was no body to study. Before leaving, I decided to search the entire place, every nook and cranny of this place, hopeful I'd find something. The place had nothing for me - it was crowded with finger prints and foot prints... the police really did a number on this crime scene.

I went to the city center in hopes of finding the dead body in the morgue, but to my surprise, I couldn't find a or if any morgues at all. I had no leads - his personal details were deleted from his personal computer by someone, and his contact book was empty. I didn't give up though, I searched everywhere and everyone. His job, his home, and even the places he used to visit. People spoke only of seeing him at that place at that time, nobody had anything more to share.

The days went by, and my only option was to check the newspaper for any updates, but even this ended up to no avail. I felt it inside me, it was my fault, if only I had gotten to the crime scene sooner, this murderer would not be roaming this city free. My inadequate skills is what caused this to happen. This murder case had grown cold - the murderer had managed to escape the jaws of justice, and is now roaming free. I hesitated to close this case, I fought a bit longer, hoping I'd find something, but my resources were starting to drain. I had to let go...

The case had gone cold.

never close a case, it softlocks you, no new cases can generate afterwards if a case is unsolved
