Item Placement (Apartment Decorating)
Loving the game so far. Finally decided to purchase an apartment and make it my own. I know it's likely way down low on the priorities, but I would really love to see item placement updated to include more options.

Specifically, it would be nice to have forward/back, up/down, and left/right on top of the rotation options.

In the same vein, it would be helpful to have a snap/no-snap option for the same reason.

I definitely didn't spend a lengthy bit of time trying to place scented candles on a coffee table, fail many times, and finally manage in the placing to somehow shatter it into pieces. :)

Yes. More placement adjustment options (for both items & furniture) would be great. Unlike you, I don't have much patience for moving or rotating the stuff manually once I put them the 1st time in the room. Instead, I find them in the save file and adjust the numeric values of position, rotation (or even color and light color) until they are placed like I wanted..

Out of curiousity, how are you able to edit the save file? Because it's a .SODB I can't open the extension in anything.

First you need to disable the save file compression in the game settings and save the game again. You should then see a file with .sod extension, which is a text file (JSON). You can open it with any plain text editor or a programmer's text editor that can highlight what is what with different colors (if you choose JSON format highlighting).

For easier readability you can either upload or paste the content of the (.sod) file into an online JSON prettifier (there will be added at least line breaks and indents).

Then depending what you want to do, you search for the content you want to modify.

The ability to free-place items without being tied to your character position would be great. I've dropped so many things because I can't physically get close enough to a table to put it on without dropping it.

Place items with the "place" option in your [x] menu. they'll be put exactly where your crosshair is.

That works well for items. Furniture, however... I can't tell you how many Case Trays I've dropped trying to put it on a table.

I remember when case trays used to have no collision and would just plummet through the ground when attempting to place them.

I'm probably asking too much, but I would prefer that the decorating/furnishing mode would switch to a Sims-style view where you can just rotate the 3D model of the apartment and place items that way instead of from a 1st-person view.
