Just finished one of these cases, without spoilers: where would you buy a sniper rifle from? Maybe some sort of blackmarket?

If you're really stuck:
Check basements to find the arms dealer, use graffiti with a picture of a gun to get the password to get in, or just break in. The Arms dealer has a ledger which will have details of any rifles sold, then you can use the name on an enforcer terminal to get all their details.

I have a crime like this as well. I have most of the evidence. I have the criminal, they even confessed. Name of the killer, gun used to kill the victim (It was on them), killers home address, arrested them. But no idea what evidence would place them at the crime.

Nearly all the evidence, and even the arrest, just shy of the location where they shot from.

I'd love to know the answer. I'll probably just turn the crime in anyway and take the 4/5th credit, but man does it urk me.

I get the black market angle, but I really thought I’d have to go to the place they shot from to find evidence. So when I got there expecting something only to get nothing, I got frusterated.

The "scene of the crime" is where they shot from. So if it's their apartment any fingerprint from there will do.

How will I know it’s the right apartment? I went to the apartment I THOUGHT they shot from only to find zero indication that that’s where they shot from, so I wasn’t sure what to do in that regard

After confirming the person who bought the weapon used in the murder, I went to that person's apartment. My first pass, I didn't find anything. Going through again, though, I found some crumpled paper with observation notes on people in the building where the murder took place. I was able to use that note as evidence to link the perp to the scene of the crime.

Oooohhh this is clever. I’ll try that.

Since Glade said they already know who the killer is in that situation you can skip looking for any particular evidence and go to their apartment so long as it lines up. Otherwise it'll be a roof. If you're talking in general then sniper killers have the observation notes like skye mentioned, a different kind of note that's more of an ominous statement of intent, and are prone to getting noise complaint emails you can find in their cruncher.

Here's how my case played out. Involves a very lucky break, as often happens in this line of work.

- Bullet hole in the floor and window entry point told me it had to be at least 1 or 2 floors above on the building to the north (15th or 16th floors)
- Found a description of an average-height short-hair female stalker
- Knocked on a door on the 15th floor of the building (old-fashioned detective work), and wouldn't you know it, a female matching the description answered.
- I wasn't allowed in, but snuck in anyway and hid in a closet. Her roommate left, and she proceeded to take a nap. Found nothing about the suspect in the apartment to arouse suspicion, but I did rather luckily find a business card for the roommate which indicated she worked at a weapons dealer in a basement, which I hadn't discovered previously. Why an illicit arms dealer would have a business card saying as much is beyond me, but let's proceed.
- When I arrived at the weapons dealer I picked the door and the proprietor was in the bathroom so I just ran in and grabbed the sales ledger, which indicated a person having bought a rifle and ammunition.
- The city directory told me that she lived (get this) in the apartment DIRECTLY BELOW MY OWN.
- I knocked on her door and she actually just let me in the house. Found a crumpled paper of observation notes with prints and a rifle with prints, but I didn't know her prints yet. Her business card indicated she was a security guard for a management company, so I got her code and went there.
- Had to lockpick my way in, and found a rather comical email on her work cruncher about opening windows, popping noises, and projectiles. Also got her prints from the employee files.
- Thought I had everything I needed for the arrest, which got messy. She noticed me sneaking up on her, which resulted in having to truncheon her before putting the bracelets on.
- In the end, I used the observation notes for the scene evidence, and got everything except (frustratingly) the murder weapon. I believe this may be because I hadn't created a connection from the bullet hole in the victim's apartment to the victim, otherwise how could it not be? I might reload an old save and try it again to find out.

I've spent the last two hours trying to figure out this damn sniper case omg.

The victim was in the corner of the office building he works at when he was shot. Early morning.
At first I went through the same thought process as others: "Let's look at the bullet hole and the impact in the window to see where the shot came from." That didn't help at all. Searched every apartment in the building that shot would've come from.
Decided I'd check out the weapons dealer's ledger to see if anyone bought a rifle recently. One person did. A person that didn't exist in the city directory.
Great so this mystery person must be homeless.
Checked the government database to find more info about mystery person. As suspected, no address. So I went looking around the parks asking around if any of the homeless knew them. Most of them said "They're my neighbor. We're living together. I last saw them 20 minutes ago headed to the weapons dealer (basically)."
Sprinted back to the weapons dealer to find the owner of the shop and he told me they were just there, but had left 10 minutes ago.

Lost em. Gone. Poof. No murder weapon, no evidence to link them to the scene. I'm genuinely so impressed. And frustrated. Definitely frustrated.

Edit: Super weird addition to the case- When I went to speak to the victim's partner, she said she last saw him at his workplace AN HOUR after he died. Ma'am what?
Checked out their apartment to find out he's been taking notes on an "average build man with short brown hair" that he's seen following him. And his partner's been meeting a group of anti-Starch Kola resistance members on the regular. Wacky crazy lore.

My first Sniper Case went like this:
The victim was in an office building and the first thing I did was look where the shot came from. In my case, there was a hotel on the other side of the crime scene. I went to the roof terrace first because I thought the shot came from a little higher up, but I didn't find anything, then I went to the apartment on the same floor as the crime scene. I searched the apartment and also found a crumpled note, but didn't think anything of it at first, the occupant of the apartment was an enforcer and I thought it was just notes from observations.

Once I had collected the occupant's details, I left the apartment again and tried my luck with the arms dealer. And to my surprise, it really was the enforcer who lived in the hotel room.
Yeah, never trust the enforcers😄
I went back into the apartment and suddenly I see that the perpetrator was stuck at the window and still standing there with the gun in his hand, I don't know why I didn't see him before🙈

I arrested him, and after that the crumpled note made sense to me because it also said that people don't close their curtains, yeah I know I was a bit lost🤣 I gave the fingerprints as evidence and everything was correct. I thought it was a shame that the perpetrator was stuck at the window but apart from that I like this cases^^

Yeah this one confused me... I mean I got it right checking 2 nearest floors of building facing the right way, but I have no idea what should be used for:
a. Evidence (I literally tagged the rifle, found bullets on the guy... but I picked up the rifle? [as a trophy] maybe bugged if I'm holding it, makes it not exist or something dumb)
b. proof the suspect was on the scene ... i tried using the bullet hole in the window/wall (shot form below)

Neither of the above were accepted/rewarded for me sadly (but at least I solved it I guess XD)

I just got done my first sniper case and I have the largest city spawn so I don't really know the illegal goods shops or any shops that sell weapons yet. The way I worked around it was this.

Saw a broken window next to the corpse who was shot by a high calibre weapon so I figured it was gonna be a sniper case. Made a mark on the map across the street to check out the apartment across but couldn't find anything. I began knocking on the doors if anyone saw or heard anything suspicious. This info led to an apartment a floor down and over to the side from where I originally thought the bullet came from.

I made my way inside when nobody was home and found shell casings on the floor of a high calibre rifle in the bathroom about where the window would be that was shot from (window not broken so I guess they opened it before shooting). Found out 2 people lived there so I went through their mail on the micro-cruncher, one of the 2 had suspicious mail talking about dealing with a certain situation and the mail was from someone I jotted down on my list from a known associate of the deceased. Figured this was the person so i tracked them down and they had the rifle on them once I cuffed them.

I got all the optional objectives correct except the murder weapon which is bizarre to me cause I can almost guarantee it was the murder weapon since it was saturated with fingerprints of the shooter but whatever lol.

I noticed going through the emails i think the owner of the building sent a notice of complaints about a loud popping noise so if I had to do this again maybe find the owner of the building and see who he sent that e-mail too to make life a bit easier next time? (not sure who sent the email but I definitely remember seeing a complaint)

What evidence did you use for "proof they were at the scene of the crime?"

I think the murder weapon part is bugged, another topic suggested planting it at the scene manually can work 🤣 "like a good cop"... but seems a stretch.

They also said just used any fingerprint at the shooter appt. For proof on the scene... I used the bullet holes (trajectory) which was wrong.

Would love to know what actually works on that front if I bump into another 😅
