Should i play sandbox or generated case?
Anytime ive played sandbox nobody gets murdered, i turn the setting for random murders on. Ive also played the generated case a few times. What is the best way to play? I cant find any crimes after 10 mins or more

It can take a while for murder cases to appear on the scanner. I often do one or two side jobs between cases while waiting.

Side jobs are tasks like stealing documents, throwing food at a mark, or finding stolen items. You can find noticeboards in bars, diners, and lobbies with notes listing each job.

Murders have to be carried out and reported in real-time. They take a minute.

Side jobs are found on job boards inside bars / diners / lobbies like the above user says.

Sandbox is, for all intents and purposes, the "main game". The "dead of night" case is a tutorial, and it isn't a 1:1 representation of the main game.
I often found a crime in progress while walking around. I have a small city (but still lively as hell) and while just going to court house or diner, I'll see a dude running off or some constabularies(?) running to a scene. Just takes a hot moment, breathe in the fresh city lol.

Sometimes NPCs are running because they are late to work or because they are in the rain / bad weather without an umbrella
