On the new Beta build (with Mods implemented officially) ... there is someting weird with Mod.io
I guess a 3rd party service called Mod.io is being imported or utilized as the avenue through which the game can "officially" get modding capabilities... but when I updated to the Beta build, I turned off my old mods, and tried this... well it opens up a full screen MOD.IO popup that I couldn't close out of no matter what I did...

There was 2 options for mods... one that looked like some stoner made some funny dialogue as a mod, and then the "Official looking" Shadow of Doubt mod. In the description for the official looking mod, it says "Don't download this. Trust me"

Wtf? it asks you to subscribe to a service and verify with PHONE or EMAIL just to use mods, first of all... that's a little extra to ask. In my opinion.
second of all I couldn't even click out of the MOD.IO page when I was finished, so after I hit download on that and saw the warning in the description, not to download it... I immediately tried to click out but I was stuck and had to close out the application from windows.

Anyone know what's up with the Mod.io or the decision to use it? It seems fishy as heck, no offense to the developers. Thoughts?

I was hoping the game would use the Steam Workshop, since this is where we are. I'm disappointed to hear that it requires a signup to a third-party service to download mods.

Last I checked Deep Rock Galactic and Contractors VR utilize mod.io and do not require you to create an account. I hope the developer changes this, but this could be some garbage Mod.io itself is pushing.

I'll be creating a "dialogue pack" mod sometime soon with a large amount of filler dialogue to flesh out the world and add a layer of player interactivity. Keep a look out for that.

I believe other games use Mod.io- big games- so it should be okay. Make a burner e-mail if it scares you.

this is almost certainly on the fault of mod.io.

You can sign in with an existing mod.io account, but I'm not sure if you can skip this step. It's buggy right now though, it doesn't seem to download/install anything. It needs a fix. Until then you can technically install the mods manually, but I wouldn't unless you know what you're doing.

The 'official' looking mod is mine, it clearly has Test Mod as a title to warn people away from it while I learn the software. I wouldn't use it, as I upload random projects that will probably break a save game.

The modding tools are days old and limited until further development and the documentation is similarly scarce. Give it some time.

Iam dissapointed to read that we can only mod text and the city. I wanted to make custom cases lol. Thats what all are asking.

mod.io is not very good, it's a shame there is no Workshop integration. I'm sick of being asked to make accounts. I have enough accounts! Stop asking me to make an account!

Of course. You only need a mod.io account if you want to use mods from mod.io.
