I'm stumped.
So I'm on my first randomly generated quest and I'm at a loss for where to go.
The quest I generated is titled Red Gum Reaper (apparently the name is important to determine the nature of the case).
His body was seemingly in the middle of a circle/pentagram thingy that apparently suggests it's part of a cult thing, but it's hard to tell because his body is clipped in the corner of the room. I can't tell if there's something beneath the victim or not. I've looked around but I haven't had any luck with any leads that actually lead anywhere.
There were no fingerprints in the scene except for the victim, and one Type O on a riddle paper (writing "Let's play a game" and then seemingly scrambling a word) that isn't connected to anybody at his work or his neighbours or anybody in his address book. I tried to check the security cameras at his work only to find he never actually showed up at work despite the V-mails claiming he was there. Even checked the person he was trying to date with V-Love. Not one of those places holds those matching prints.
I'm not exactly sure what else to try to pick up the scent again. Nor am I sure if maybe the case is glitched out?

The murderer's fingerpints are on that "lets play" paper. It also is a little word puzzle in which every victim they kill, they add a letter, which you have to unscramble for the name (if you haven't found them by then.)

To be clear, all four murderer types drop a crucial piece of evidence, every single time. For ritual killers like yours, that's the "let's play" paper.

Think like a detective. Scan everything for fingerprints. Check nearby shops and restaurants for purchases that seem suspicious, or place somebody at the scene.

This game and the murders are fully simulated, at all times, which means the killers do have to literally go out and buy a weapon and then walk to their victim and break into their house / catch them on the street / show up to their workplace. They do leave evidence behind.

Edit: also, no, nothing is glitched, aside from the body being awkwardly positioned. But that comes down to how the murder happened physically; they must have been hit, then crumpled on the floor in the corner. Also, how did they die? Were they shot, stabbed, or poisoned? If shot, did anybody buy a gun from the pawn shop or black market nearby? These are all important details. You really need to investigate in this game. Nothing is handed to you (except, I guess, the gov. database... overpowered)

Got it, thank you very much

The murderer will kill again if you struggle with the case for too long, giving you a chance to collect more evidence and create connections.

Fingerprints are currently really valuable at the moment, i suggest trying to find who that Type O belongs to.

NPCs sometimes do pick up and move items as well. So if there was a partner in the apartment before the Enforcers arrived they could possibly pick up a piece of evidence. I've watched NPCs at street murders walk up, say "This doesn't belong here." and proceed to pick up and pocket an item I was about to grab myself or scan. It's probably not supposed to happen, but it does.

If you go to one of the cafe/burger joint style stand alone restaurants pick up a coffee from off the floor and set it on the counter or the top of the garbage can. The NPCs that work there will say "This doesn't belong here." and go and pick it up.

If there's things in the hall (boxes, step stools, etc) near Enforcers guarding a scene you can try moving them and see if they take the bait and move to put the item away. If they do it will give you a short window where they're not looking.

Also, the newspaper can be helpful with a clue or two if you really stuck before the next murder happens. It usually takes a few in game hours to update.

To be clear this "picking up evidence at the crime scene" stuff appears to be a new bug. I haven't heard this happening to people before a patch or two ago.

I've gotten a Similar Case to this before. The best lead is to Scan the fingerprint on the crumple paper ( your Type O ) then Reorganize the scrambled letters into a Name.
Mine was _. ____ with Reals - I looked into the City Book and got S.Earl. Worked for an underground gun market and found his print linked with the crime and the gun on him.

Generally there are several Leads you can do in the Game varying from Easy to Hard.
Easy - Crack into the apartments Surveillance and check who was at the crime scene
check their workplace and break into their employment records ( gives all fingerprints there )
hard - Check their emails - Look at phone call records - Check gun logbook for recent purchases
There will always be 1-2 clues at a crime scene. Usually something that leaves you a fingerprint and a solid lead ( the Scrambled letters is a solid lead )

Difficulty does not change case generation in any way. Cases are exactly as hard on easy mode as they are on normal or hard. Difficulty in the current version exclusively affects combat damage and nothing else. This is a common misconception because the setting is poorly described in-game.

?
I'm Not talking about "game setting" difficulty, im talking about easiest leads to do that give the most info

The way you worded it sounded like you were referring to the difficulty setting in-game. A lot of people get confused by it and think it changes how cases generate.

Thanks for the advice, all, I did manage to crack the case, though oddly it was through blind luck, haha
That crumpled paper with the cultist had the fingerprints I needed and I managed to stumble on the right apartment
