Missing Fingerprints
So far both of the stolen item recovery missions I've attempted haven't spawned fingerprints other than the inhabitants; and searching every known associates' apartments (by cross-referencing the victim's handwriting sample and address book to separate their partner's associates) has afforded nothing. Am I missing something big? It honestly seems like a glitch, which I wouldn't begrudge a game in early access, but I want to get other players' input on their successes or failures on these missions in particular.

From what I've seen so far, the fingerprints don't stay forever. They eventually disappear after a while. Keep in mind that there's a possibility the item was stolen several days before you accepted the job. The victim gives you the date of the theft, which you can check anytime through the notes tab of the job listing on your case board. If the item was stolen multiple days prior, then the lack of fingerprints is normal.

I personally don't use the handwriting samples. I just go through the entire address book until I find the thief. First, I check the apartments of those who live in the same building than the victim, then I check the ones in the other buildings. The stolen item is usually (but not always) in the culprit's safe. Sometimes, it turns out they were one of the victim's coworkers.

It's possible my way of doing things isn't the most efficient. But so far, the stolen item cases have been easy to solve for me. So perhaps check the apartments of the partner's acquaintances as well?

Try work colleagues too - I had a similar case where almost every person in the address book had the same item that was stolen, but none had the client's fingerprints (I'm fairly sure these fingerprints will not fade - unlike ones at the scene - so you will still be able to verify the right item is recovered even after several days).
I spread out the net and the culprit ended up being a work colleague that was not listed in the address book.

stolen item cases are nearly impossible after 1-2 ingame days. since the fingerprints then disappear. the only thing you can do is go through everyone they know, collegues and adress book. one by one.

Yeah, I've tried that, and maybe my frustration simply got the better of me and I overlooked the item or missed a lead. Still, I didn't find the item either time and they were pretty unique (a baseball card and a book). Thanks for the reply and I kinda hope they let fingerprints last/add a flag to reapply them when you accept a job.

Hmmm, hope that gets ironed out as a bug. Thanks for the help, maybe I'll give another quest a shot when I'm not so frazzled. Pretty sure I hit every possible lead for both the victim and their partner but somehow never found the item despite head-on B&E'ing every one of them.
