Connecting addresses with people?
I'm not entirely sure what the game identifies as a connecting piece of information. I routinely will know a person's address, but the game won't know I know it. It won't be listed under their profile and it won't auto generate a connection on the board. But I'll find their wallet or an ID or something, and it will say both their full name as well as their full address, but the game won't update that information?

I know that it won't link things if it has a partial name as it reads A. Thompson as a different identity to Adam Thompson on the board, but it feels almost random what will or won't connect those pieces of information... Anyone have any advice for reliably connecting an address to an NPC?

Basically you need a document that shows they live there. My usual go-to is to find their box/file of documents, one of them will be their rental agreement which will link them undeniably to living there.

You can also get this info from their wallet or purse if it's lying around.

Remember, you reasoning something out is not necessarily proof as the game wants it.

But that's what I mean, I get their wallet and it doesn't update their address even though it says they live there?

Could be an oversight, could be that a wallet isn't legally binding.
Though you can usually find a key in the wallet, so probably oversight

Click on the address within the wallet, it should create another connection

Your game won't record evidence directly to the targets profile until you find totally irrefutable proof that your information cannot possibly be for someone separate. This proof could be a document that also contains a matching photograph, or one that lists their already ID'd fingerprint, or information gained from a direct encounter with the person themselves.

Unlike those three examples, names just aren't unique enough to be classed as a reliable identifier, not dissimilar from real life I suppose. I don't know if the game actually allows for two NPCs of the same world to have identical full names, but the game wants you to approach it as if that is a possibility.

Don't worry though, just pin the information for later anyway. The resolution form only cares that you fed it the correct answers, not whether those answers are all linked up in-engine.

Is this true? I just finished a case where I filled in all the fields including using the perp's fingerprints which I couldn't link to him because he glitched when I arrested him and couldn't fingerprint him but knew it was his cus he dropped the murder weapon with his prints on it. So I definitely entered the correct info into the "proof they were at the crime scene" even though I hadn't actually linked it in game yet, but it failed me on that one. So maybe you do need the game to know you know and being right isn't enough?

Well I thought this to be true. I thought I had been rewarded credit for arresting someone without linking them to their address in the past. Maybe I was wrong or maybe fingerprints are a different story. If in doubt using one of these three ways guarantees that you can link a face to a fingerprint without taking them directly from the person:

1. Printing their profile from the government database.
2. Resident records, normally in the nearest security room to their apartment.
3. Employee records, found only at the targets place of work.

In the case of resident and employee records, you can either look in filing cabinets or print it out from an on-site microcruncher. They both work for this.

Edit: Oh and let us know how it goes if you try those. It would be good to know if it did make a difference.
