How to put necklace in mailbox?

Retrieved a gold necklace for a theft victim, now I gotta place it in his mailbox. I am throwing it and picking it up for 10 minutes now and still cannot hand in the quest. tripple checked the item AND the mailbox, both are correct. How do I proceed?°

Edit: I managed to put it in, close the mailbox and the quest still isn't updating

Yep best thing to do is simply avoid those missions until they get fixed.

Get close to the mailbox and open inventory, choose item and press place/drop.

Did you resolve the case in the top right?

A lot of dropoff cases are bugged. I tried tons of workarounds and finagling with my stolen item case but it was a dud.
