Poison: what's the murder weapon?
Autopsy says the victim died of poison.

I found a syringe next to the body, with the killer's prints. I also found a bottle poison on him, with his prints, after cuffing him.

I tried to turn in my case report with both as the murder weapon (one each, reloading, I mean... not both at the same time, of course). Neither was accepted.

According to this post, it should be the syringe.

Is there a known bug, not recognizing murder weapons?

I noticed that on my HUD, it's still telling me to find the murder weapon, even though I did select it in the report, and the box is checked. Is that the issue?

What are the chances that the syringe found right next to the body wasn't the murder weapon, and there's some other syringe somewhere?

It should be the syringe. It would be unusual, but it is possible that the murder weapon is a totally different syringe. Have you checked for any syringes at the murderer's home? If there aren't any there, they might have left the 'real' syringe next to another victim's body. I've seen something similar happen before.

Yeah, I checked the house thoroughly, nothing there.

Though more bodies are theoretically possible, it seems unlikely in this case.

Cashier at a restaurant killed his boss in the street just outside the restaurant... went home for a bit, then went straight back to work.

I'm not getting a big "serial killer" vibe from him.

The notification for "Have you found the murder weapon?" (or whatever the exact wording is) on the HUD should disappear when you actually select something, no?

I have a feeling it's a bug, but I forgot how it went last time, so I figured I'd ask.

ive had a bug where picking evidence didnt count even if the evidence was valid; it very well could just be bugged

That's what I'm suspecting happened, but I've only heard of that happening with theft/stolen items quests.

It's especially annoying to see it in a murder investigation.

There's also the fact that it's slightly different, since it's not about picking an item up, but about inspecting it and adding it to the board.

Still, given how the HUD is behaving, that does look like what the issue is.

it was particularly frustrating for me because I know for absolute fact I was right on all accounts.

Seeing it tell me that the killer's address was wrong made me so angry.

That's certainly understandable.

I forget: is the killer's address an optional thing?

I'm not happy about my murder weapon situation (assuming I'm right), but at least I can solve the case without issue.

Broken quests that can't be turned in are especially frustrating.

I believe it is optional, yes.

I have had this bug as well, specifically with poison

Poison found on correct killer, false.
Reloaded the save.
Syringe at the scene, with fingerprints, next to the victim, also false.

Reloaded multiple times, same results, and this was the first death of the case because I found them pretty much an in game hour after the murder so no other bodies where the syringe might've been hiding, and searched the apartment thoroughly multiple times after each reload and the suspect. Yep, no, I think this is a bug, especially when everything else I entered was correct without issue.

Ditto. Tried both syringe i found, two poison i found at killer's home/on them, none counted as the murder weapon.

its not just with poison. ive had this happen in cases where someone was killed with a 8mm handgun. id go to the apartment of the killer and there would be a few guns of that type, but none were the murder weapon. i assume that either the npc got rid of the murder weapon, like throwing it in the water or in the trash somewhere, or it despawned or got glitched into a wall. maybe they left it at someone elses apartment or in their office, but i looked really extensively and couldnt find it.

i dont concern myself with it too much since oftentimes they dont find a weapon used in a crime even in real life. i just turn the case in, accept my docked pay and chalk it up to circumstance.

They will never get rid of a weapon, so that you can always find it. It being a bug is definitely possible though.

Did you also search them? They might have been carrying it.

yeah i searched him.

the crime i was investigating was some woman shot 7 times with an 8mm. 7 shellcasings were left on the ground. i believe the in-game revolver holds 7 in its cylinder but i may be wrong. i assumed someone either fired 7 shots with an automatic or went through the full cylinder of the revolver then reloaded as they left, dumping out the empty shells in the process. in the apartment of the killer there was both an automatic and a revolver, both in 8mm. i tried both of them and neither one was the murder weapon.

the ultimate mystery.

Had the same type of case, apparently writing down the vial of poison I found on the suspect does not count as a murder weapon... Need to find a syringe or the thing they poisoned I guess :/
