Crosscheck it. Check their coworkers, see if anyone who bought the murder weapon matches the prints, check their neighbors, check their address book, check who they emailed or called last, etc.

Now sometimes the killer can have absolutely no connection to the victim but it's somewhat rare.

I considered bruteforcing gov records to find prints, at first, but I decided to try scanning mailboxes first, which also didn't help, and finally going building to building and scanning doors.

That ended up doing it, and was far less frustrating/tedious than I expected it to be.

can you do database search by picture or fingerprint?
Roblin May 2, 2023 @ 2:31pm
Another option is going though employment records of businesses, they keep prints and residences on file
Roblin May 2, 2023 @ 2:41pm
If you're going to run around to every business though do yourself a favor and organize them by location on your crime board

Im at dilemma here. Found fingerprints on the mailbox, yet tehre is no tennats with this fingerprints..nor neighboors match it as well...

Suspect is likely homeless. Had one like that. Neighbors gave me a description of "very short" and it turned out to be a very short homeless man. So go out asking for names from suspects and run those specific ones on the database. Or take the prints off their unconscious body...

Was there no security camera that caught people at / near the scene? Typically when you check the dead body you should get an approximate time of death that you can use on camera feeds.

If you can get a face from the security camera (can print the image out), you can then question people if they know the person in the picture and they'll give you a name, then you can check if their fingerprints match.

Got lucky, was working at one of the restaurants. Next case though...no picture, fingerprints or anything. Except first initial of the first name and partner work as a receptionist...not even sure how you suppose to tackle something like this...first initial is H, now checking everyone with this name, but its countless suspects...

By the way, security room may not have files on all residents. I've had a case with suspect not being in files, but lived in luxury apartments upstairs. So if you find prints, but no file, it's still a good idea to investigate further.

On side note: when looking for security footage, take a note on any person inside of a building in the moment of a murder. And i mean on every floor and lobby with 1-2 hour range. There is a not zero chance that suspect will be caught on one of the floor or a lobby while they are entering or leaving building. In same case i mentioned before, suspect had green hair, which not many people have, and they appeared only once, briefly in a lobby, about 1 hour before murder.

I'd probably just look into all the receptionists I could find, depending on how many "H."-named people I found in the phonebook.

Does anyone know how to spot a murder case? All ive seen is the cases on the advertisement board next to the phone.

check street camera in front of buildings before and after the crime time, print out the photos and focus on those people first. that at least narrows your search down potentially by a lot.

How do you check street cams?

No but if you have a picture you can ask around and learn their name that way. Fingerprints are usually more of a way to confirm you got the right person, unless you've encountered them before or have it narrowed down enough that you can just scan a few possibilities.
